MATTHEW TKACHYK October 15, 1927 - October 14, 2014 On Tuesday, October 14, 2014, one day before his 87th birthday, Matthew Tkachyk passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family. Matt was born in the R.M. of De Salaberry near Dufrost, MB. He and Doris, his wife of 64 years, spent most of their married life in Elm Creek, where they raised their ten children. Matt's love of farming carried on for 75 years and spanned three generations. One of his favorite quotes was "Choose a job you love and you never have to work a day in your life". Matt is the loving, devoted and gentle husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and brother to: wife Doris Tkachyk, children: Marlene (Jack) Low (Chris (Tanis), Jon (Natalie)), Stephanie (Eldon) Dyck (Melanie (Joey), Ryley (Terese)), Ed (Jo-Ann) Tkachyk (Matthew (Danielle), Michelle (Kyle), Pam (Adam)), Ted (Cheryl) Tkachyk, Jim (Cathy) Tkachyk (Brad (Monica), Sarah), Lorraine (Larry) Shumlich (Jessica (Dan), Erin, Adrienne, Brady), Barb Tkachyk (Raelene (Shaun), Clark (Candice), Scott, Connor), Gloria Ouellette (Ashley, Derek, Carson), Diane (Ron) Christensen (Taylor, Brendan), Sharon (Marc) Hul (Emily, Nicholas, Benjamin). Great-grandchildren: Tiana, Brooke, Brady, Danica, Luke, Hayden, Quinn, Matigan, Oliver, Berlynn, Harrison, Malcolm. Brother Walter (Helen) Tkachyk, Sister Martha (Adam Sontag), sisters-in-law Pat Tkachyk and Liz Patzer. Matt's favourite times were spent with family and friends, near and far. Matt will be deeply missed and his memories cherished forever. We love you so much. Your smiles, love, storytelling, generosity and kindness will always be in our hearts. Donations in memory of Matt can be made to Carman Area Foundation, Box 160, Carman, MB, R0G 0J0. Prayers will be said Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at Doyle's Funeral Home, Carman. Funeral mass will be held on Friday, October 24, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Elm Creek Community Hall. Interment will take place in the Elm Creek Catholic Cemetery. The family would like to thank the doctors from Winnipeg and Portage as well as the Carman home care staff for all of their compassionate care of Matt.   • I’m saddened by the passing of Matt. I always looked forward to visiting Matt, Ed, Ted and Jim at the shop for many years. I have fond memories calling on Matt for several reasons and he in turn was always willing to help, especially when I broke my leg, everyone in the family knows that story.   • I always looked forward to calling on Matt in the 70's - Doris served us lunch while Jim, Ted, and Ed watched the cartoons ..Once Matt took me out selling chocolates as a fundraiser to the surrounding farms, we had a " visit " at each stop .. He was a good friend and reading his obituary brought a tear to my eye .. I read every name of his Wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that he was so proud of.
