EDWIN WALTER KAMMERLOCK September 3, 1934 October 16, 2014 It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Edwin Walter Kammerlock, our dearly beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. With his family by his side, Edwin peacefully passed on October 16, 2014 at the age of 80, after a long courageous battle with cancer in the Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital. Ed will be dearly missed by his sunshine Kay (nee Kumka), his children Ron (Kimberly), Karen (Fred), Gary (Lynn), Debbie (Rob), his grandchildren Daniel (Kari), David (Kathy), Tara (Kolya), Michael, Ashley, Derick and Caitlyn, as well as his great-grandson Nathan. He is also survived by his sisters Lilla Supeene and Trudy Smith (Tom), his in-laws Don Keller (Barb), and Dianne Kammerlock, his life-long friend Ron Schettler (Joan), as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Walter and Elsa Kammerlock, and his siblings Frieda Busch, Vera Keller, and Ralph Kammerlock. Ed was born in Grandview, MB, and grew up in the north end of Winnipeg. After graduating from Isaac Newton, Ed went on to work for the City of Winnipeg. He retired from the Finance Department in 1989, after 37 years of service. He met the love of his life, Kay, through the City of Winnipeg bowling league. They were married on October 5, 1957 and recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary together. Ed and Kay settled in West Kildonan, where they raised their family. His favourite place to be was Gull Lake. For the past 55 years, he created a place where many laughs were shared, and precious memories were made. Dad always had a way of making sure that everyone who came to the lake felt welcome. Curling was a large part of Ed's life, both as a participant and spectator. This passion for curling was extended to his entire family. He was an avid bowler, coin collector, bingo-caller, and lifetime member of the Canadian German Society. He spent endless hours volunteering with the Christmas Cheer Board, local food bank and was an active member at St. Luke's Zion Lutheran Church. Ed and Kay also made many friends while they were members at the Wellness Institute. Family meant everything to him. Grandpa never missed an opportunity to attend all of his grandchildren's activities. He was truly their biggest fan. His generosity and love for his family was both inspiring and unmatched. He left a mark on this world, leaving a legacy that will live on forever. A special thank you to the outstanding care that he received at the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit, CancerCare Manitoba, and the home care staff who cared for Dad throughout his illness. The family would also like to express their gratitude to Pastor Lynne Hutchison, who was always there during his time of need. A funeral service to celebrate Ed's life will be held on Friday, October 24 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Luke's Zion Lutheran Church, 2903 McPhillips Street. Interment and luncheon to follow at Glen Eden Funeral Home, at 4477 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Miss Me, But Let Me Go When I come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me I want no rites in a gloom filled room Why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little, but not too long, And not with your head bowed low Remember the love that we once shared Miss me, but let me go. For this is a journey we all must take And each must go alone It's all part of the Master's Plan A step on the road to home. So when you are lonely and sick at heart Go to the friends we know And bury your sorrow in doing good deeds Miss me, but let me go. Glen Eden Funeral Home and Cemetery 204-338-7111
