GERTRUDE ELIZABETH MCKINNON
Date of Passing: Oct 18, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERTRUDE ELIZABETH MCKINNON It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Gertrude at the age of 103 years. She was born 1911 in the Netherlands and immigrated to Canada at the age of 12 with her family, married our father Leo in 1933 and had two children William James and Frank Arnold. Gertrude was an extremely industrious and adventurous woman in her early married life who moved with Leo to various mining communities, Diana Gold Mines, Horseshoe at Sioux Narrows, Ontario and various remote sites in Eastern Manitoba where she became the representative to many air services and delivered mail by canoe. She would surely say that her most accomplished business undertaking was the establishment of several family restaurants in conjunction with Leo. She loved dogs and bred Chihuahua's and Boston Terriers for many years. Thanks to Dr. Coates and Hilda Bernesky she was able to live independently until last December when she moved to Middlechurch Home. Thanks to Middlechurch Home for the exemplary care. She is survived by sons, William and Frank and predeceased by husband Leo in 1982. At Gertrude's request no funeral service will be held and there will be a family interment. Just passing on my condolences to Bill and Frank. Even though her life was long and full, it's still sad to say goodbye. I was out of town in October and missed seeing the obit. Followed her amazing final years mostly through Bill. Our sympathies, guys. Roberta and Otto - Posted by: Roberta Beach (family friend) on: Oct 28, 2014

My sincere sympathies to the family I remember the many times spent at the restaurant at the corner of St. Annes and the old highway. Once again, my sympathies to the family. - Posted by: Ken Charman () on: Oct 25, 2014
