LARRY GWIAZDA It is with great sadness that we say "farewell" to Larry. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, nephew, cousin, and a friend. Larry left peacefully after a long fight with terminal lung disease, on Monday, October 20, 2014 at the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit. He leaves behind his wife Margaret of forty nine years, sons Bryan (Jennifer and Rylan), Eric (Jacob and Andrew), David (Lisa and Sam); sisters, Wendy, Cheryl and Dawn, brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many many friends. His parents Michael and Joan predeceased him some years ago along with his in-laws, Ella and Pat Askin. Larry retired a proud member of the Canadian Army and Militia. As well as serving Canada, he served Manitoba in various roles in the Emergency Management Organization, and Manitoba Health, Disaster Preparedness. His family and his dog came first but over the years he held many and varied interests. Those being parachuting, scouting, boating, fishing, trains and airplanes. His talents shone through in his projects of wood and pewter. His most recent passion was his carving and hand painting of his Christmas ornaments. His carving knife and paint brush were the last tools to be laid aside. They had been his solace through the difficult days during his long journey. We wish to extend our greatest gratitude to the Palliative Care Team in the Community, the Palliative Care Staff at St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit, the home care workers, our relatives and friends who gave support and caring over the many months and years. Larry's motto he lived by 'till the end, "one day at a time -what will be, will be"... and so it was and will continue to be. Larry, you are loved and will be missed. Memorial service and reception for Larry to be held at: Westwood Community Church 401 Westwood Dr., Monday, October 27, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the St. James 55+ Men's Group. www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715

  • Larry and I worked together with the Manitoba Emergency Measures Organization - Training and Education Section. We travelled many miles together to get to locations to train police, fire, ambulance, Municipal Local Authorities etc. Larry was a pretty serious guy on most of these trips but we did have a few lighter moments together... Larry and I collaborated in the development of a Manitoba Emergency Site Management course package as well as a Manitoba Emergency Radio Operators' course. I wish to offer my condolences to his family and the Manitoba emergency services community that will miss him. And I look forward to seeing him in Heaven one day. - Posted by: Joseph Marc Bruyère (Colleague with Manitoba Emergency Measures Organization) on: Oct 23, 2014
