SOPHIE MARIELLE CHARRIERE
Born: Jun 30, 1986
Date of Passing: Oct 27, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySOPHIE MARIELLE CHARRIERE June 30, 1986 - October 27, 2014 It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Sophie Marielle Charriere, at the tender age of 28, on October 27, 2014. Sophie was born in Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes, MB, growing up on the farm and later moving to Winnipeg. She often returned to her roots; the farm, enjoying time with her Mom and Dad, precious little brother and best friend Daniel, family, friends and pets. It was in Winnipeg that Sophie met her soul mate Chris, and they began planning their future together. Her love of nature and animals was evident from her very first steps. She would spend countless hours outdoors with her dog, cats, horses and any other animal she would bless with her tender heart. Sophie was a talented artist and beautiful writer. She enjoyed reading, music, singing, cycling, camping and truly never lacked in interests. Sophie graduated from the University of Winnipeg with an Arts degree in June 2011 and was in her final year of Social Work at the University of Manitoba; an excellent career choice consistent with her passion and values. Sophie was a loving, compassionate, spirited young lady. Always advocating for the less fortunate and constantly working towards positive change. She was a humanitarian at heart and a leader for action and change. She cared so passionately for her family, friends, pets, the environment and the world. She had an open heart and an open mind. Sophie will be forever missed by her fiancée and soul mate Christopher Atchison; mom and dad Jeanine Philippot and Luc Charriere; brother and friend Daniel Charriere (Nikki); grandmothers, Anne Marie Philippot and Therese Charriere; uncles and aunts, Ron Burgoyne (Cindy), Lynne Philippot, Richard and Jill Philippot, Marina Philippot, Doris and Tim Belliveau; future mother and father-in-law Linda and Warren Atchison; future brother-in-law Tyler Atchison (Jordon); extended family, numerous cousins, friends, co-workers, colleagues, classmates and of course her precious Chief, Duke, Harley, Wicket and Romeo. She was predeceased by her grandfathers Louis Philippot, Antoine Charriere and precious godmother Marielle Burgoyne. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Saint Boniface Cathedral in Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any homeless or women's shelter of your choice. Sophie, we love you so much and are devastated by the loss of your presence in our lives. We trust you are at peace and have faith you are surrounded in love. Desjardins 233-4949 1-888-233-4949 www.desjardinsfuneralchapel.ca

Sophie - Philosophy - Love of Knowledge - Wisdom Sophie fought for her life coming into the world. She was extremely intelligent, wise beyond her years. She was a voice for herself and others throughout her life. She was down to earth, loving, strong and resourceful. She fought for her life leaving the world. Her voice, ability to articulate, intelligence, education, fell on deaf ears, silenced by strangers, thinking they knew you better than you or your family did. My beautiful daughter, my friend, someone I admire/d. You trusted me with everything. Sorry my voice fell on the same deaf ears. Love You Forever, Mom - Posted by: Jeanine M. G. I was just informed of the passing of Sophie by a former classmate. I met Sophie a few years ago in a program that we went through together. She was always kind, considerate and thoughtful - her smile was infectious. Sophie was someone that was so easy to talk to and I was always drawn by the way she could articulate herself. I am shocked and deeply sad to hear about her passing. Sophie will be greatly missed and my thoughts go out to her family and friends. - Posted by: Eleni Kirkikis () on: Nov 13, 2014

Jeanine, Luc, and Daniel There are no words to express the deep felt heart wrenching sadness I feel for the three of you, and for Sophie. She was meant for great things and though she accomplished many more than most will in a full long lifetime, this is far too soon for her. The world was a much better place with her in it. I am here for you for whatever you need. Chris we have never met but I can say this, you must be a great man to have been loved by this absolutely incredible woman. Thank you for loving her. - Posted by: Mona Jodoin (Family Friend) on: Nov 06, 2014

Sophie and I became friends in High School and she was the most beautiful, compassionate and selfless person I have ever had the privilege of knowing. At this time, I offer my most deepest sympathies to Jeanine, Luc, Daniel and Chris. You are all in my thoughts and prayers and I too trust that Sophie is at peace. Dear Jeanine and Family. Shocked and saddened to hear of Sophie's sudden passing. Hearing you describe many times what a remarkable girl she was, those many years ago, and more recently gushing about the amazing young woman that she had become. I can only imagine the feelings that you all are feeling at this time. Seeing how much she touched others, is a reflection of the love that you have given to both Sophie and Daniel over the years. Words are never sufficient, but I know that you and your family are surrounded by much love and caring at this time. Take Care. Michael Zywina - Posted by: Michael Zywina (Friend ) on: Nov 03, 2014

I was very sad and shocked to hear of the sudden passing of Sophie. She was in a few of my classes at the University of Manitoba, and although I did not know her very well, throughout the few interactions we had I could tell she was a very caring, compassionate and genuine person. I wish I had gotten to know her better. I would always see her in class, smiling, always so much to say in regards to social justice and social issues. I could tell she was determined, compassionate and would make a difference in the social work field. My condolences to all of her family and friends. You will be missed by all, Sophie. RIP. - Posted by: Kristin (Classmate) on: Oct 31, 2014

I am deeply saddened and shocked to hear of Sophie’s sudden passing. I had the pleasure of knowing Sophie through two of my social work classes. She always sat in the front row, eager to learn about social work and social justice issues. Truly, she was a student who all professors hope to have in their class - she was bright, inquisitive, thoughtful, and compassionate. It was clear to me that she cared deeply for people, especially those most marginalized in our society. I will miss her energy and her presence around the Faculty of Social Work. To Sophie, her family and friends - you are in my thoughts and prayers during this time. - Posted by: Kendra Nixon (Professor) on: Oct 30, 2014

Sophie and I were classmates at U of W. Though I didn't know her intimately, she invited me to study with her for our exams. I always had a great time talking to her. At the time I was really homesick having just left my family farm, and moved into university residence. So we had a lot in common, and had lots of stories to trade in between the rounds of quizzing each other. I never forgot her easy smile, and how she made me feel welcome at a time when I really needed it. Thank you, Sophie. I wish we had gotten a chance to know each other better. <3. - Posted by: Danielle Otto (Classmate) on: Oct 30, 2014

Why? That's what we ask. the truth is, we may never be able to know for sure why. But we do know that there is no single "should have done," or "could have done," or didn't do," that would have changed that Why. All that love could do was done. Sophie will ever be gentle in my mind, as well as you, her loving family...sigh. Our deepest sympathies & warmest love to you all.
