Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryERIKA KOOP Surrounded by the love of her family, at the St. Boniface Hospital, Erika Adelheit Koop (Epp) passed away peacefully and beautifully on Monday, October 27, 2014 at the age of 95. Erika was born to Anna (Zacharias) and Johannes Epp on October 3, 1919 in Rosental, Chortitza, Russia. Their love was cut short by the death of Anna when Erika was two years old. Her father remarried Katherina Dick on Erika's third birthday. A short time later, under difficult circumstances, the family and relatives immigrated to Canada, arriving in Saskatchewan where she lived until moving to Winnipeg as a teenager. Erika's growing years were very hard, but once she met the love of her life, real joy filled her world. She married John Koop on June 5, 1948 and together they were blessed with six daughters. Erika will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered by her family: Elvira (Harry) Finnigan, Shaun Finnigan (Kelly Kuryk), Ivan and Maxwell, Elise Finnigan (Gene Muller), Neev and Sana; Wanda Koop (Steve Hunter), Stepheny Hunter; Kathy Koop (Bruce Spielman); Charlotte (Don) Livingston, Ian (Lindsay) Livingston, Matt (Chantal) Livingston, Kaitlin Livingston; Dorothy (David) Ryzebol, Christopher (Kristin) Ryzebol, Michael (Amra) Ryzebol, Kaden and Zaiah, Allison Ryzebol; Carla (Craig) Oliphant, Heather Oliphant (Dan Perlov), Adrianna Oliphant, Jessica Oliphant. Erika was predeceased by her loving husband John, her sister Irmgard, and brother Oscar. She is survived by her two brothers Ted Epp and Fred Epp and several in-laws. She will also be missed by many beloved relatives and friends. Erika's love for her family was always at the center of her life, raising her daughters in a faith filled, creative, supportive and energetic home. She had many artistic gifts, talents and interests that were far ranging, of which she gave freely to family, friends and community. She loved people and was well loved. Erika's deep faith was her source of strength to the very end. She left this world knowing she was being reunited with her Saviour and loved ones in Heaven. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Elmwood Mennonite Brethren Church, 145 Henderson Hwy., with viewing prior to the service. Interment to follow in the Elmwood Cemetery. In Erika's memory, donations may be made to Art City, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or Mennonite Central Committee.

Tante Erika, as I called her, is often on my mind over the years. My mother was her cousin and after my parents died when I was fairly young, Tante Erika and I became close friends over the years. She has given me a huge gift of family history, and her contribution to my collecting and passing on family history is invaluable. But most of all, I miss her welcoming, kind and loving disposition, a certain way to always make you feel you were the most important person in her life at the time we were talking or visiting, She was a happy person but not without her sorrows, which she shared freely as well. I cannot imagine my life without having known her. Bis wir uns wiedersehn, Tante Erika - Posted by: Christina Amazonas (Niece) on: Apr 20, 2023

Erika and our Mom Nettie nee Zacharias Janzen were the two oldest cousins in a large family. Both lost their mothers at a very young age during trying times. They were childhood playmates and remained close as they became adults, married and had children. Our Mom died young and Erika became our link to the past. She was a walking history book who could tell us stories of the early days and their perilous journey to Canada leaving the war/revolution torn country of South Russia. We loved to hear about the many experiences of those days. As the years passed she stayed in touch. I treasure my last visit with her on the telephone the day of her 95th birthday. She expressed gratitude for family nearby that came to visit regularly. She spoke of her memories of her beloved John. She was a woman who lived her love for all on a daily basis. We express our deepest sympathy to you, her family; she left such a beautiful legacy. We regret that we were unable to be part of her memorial service. We remember her with deep love. - Posted by: Margie Koop (She was my great aunt and a soul mate to our mother, Nettie Janzen) on: Nov 08, 2014

Mrs. Koop was a very special lady. She taught my mother Sunday school and years later when our family returned to Winnipeg I was privileged to meet her daughter Charlotte. Being neighbours gave me 6 sisters and many great and fond memories of fun and unconditional love. Mrs. Koop always had room for another girl! On my last visit in 2012 she showed me how to make those special bags made of grocery bags - she always made time to be with you and make you feel special and loved no matter how busy she was. She truly was a blessing to everyone who knew her. I will miss her!! - Posted by: Christine Morrison (Friend of family) on: Oct 31, 2014

We have been blessed for having Erika as our friend for so many years. She made us feel so welcome when we joined her church in Sept 1972 and we appreciated being included in so many of her family celebrations over these many years. She is fondly remembered with our love and gratitude. - Posted by: Vern and Helen Plett (Freinds) on: Oct 31, 2014

Condolences to all the family of Erika Koop. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I remember with fondness the creativity within her home when I visited as a child. It was always a special time for me. With gratitude for her kindness, encouragement and her creating a space for artistic gifts to blossom.
