ARLEIGH JOAN THORGRIMSON (WYLIE) January 11, 1954 - October 28, 2014 It is with love and great sadness that we announce that Arleigh Thorgrimson (Wylie) passed away October 28, 2014 peacefully, with her children by her side, after a long battle with diabetes and 15 years of kidney dialysis, at the age of 60. Arleigh was predeceased by her father Dr. Kenneth Wylie, mother Grace Wylie, and daughter Adrian Thorgrimson. She is survived by her son Ryan Thorgrimson, daughter Andrea Thorgrimson, brothers Barry (Angie) Wylie, Brent (Margie) Wylie, Ross Wylie, and sister Lori Wylie. Arleigh will always be remembered for her love of music and amazing musical talent. She was blessed with an angelic operatic singing voice that won her the 1977 Reg Hugo Memorial Trophy award at the Winnipeg Music Festival for the Most Outstanding Performance of an Opera Aria by a Grade "A" Honour Level Vocalist. Arleigh continued to sing professionally throughout her life and shared her gift with others right until the end. Those who knew her know how much she loved to talk. She could turn a five minute conversation into an hour with such passion and energy. Arleigh will best be remembered for her incredibly positive, vibrant spirit and love for everyone. She was an inspiration to so many as she fought her disease with such determination and always with a huge smile on her face. Arleigh gave so much from her heart to others and was always there for anyone no matter the state of her health. She was the most loving mother to her children and held many close friendships. Arleigh will be greatly missed. We would like to send our sincerest thanks and gratitude to all of the doctors, nurses and medical staff at both St. Boniface and Seven Oaks Hospitals for taking such great care of her over the years! Thank you and love to friends Allan and Ingrid Pomanski for all you were able to do for her during the last few years. A reception to celebrate Arleigh's life will be held Saturday, November 1, 2:00 p.m., at St. Andrew's River Heights United Church. We love you Mom! Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 204-885-9715

  • Arleigh and I were such good friends, in the summer of 1964 she had come back from Minneapolis to live in the "Gates". I moved to Middlegate that summer and Cathy Shebeski and Arleigh were my best friends. It was later I found out that Arleigh had lived in Middlegate before she went to Minnesota. My really good memory is Arleigh playing the piano and us singing together. - Posted by: Marion Cherington (school friends) on: Nov 08, 2014

  • Arleigh was a neighbour, a year ahead of me in school and a friend of my sister. I loved hearing her sing and it was a thrill to hear her in the lead roles of the two musicals, West Side Story and The Man of La Mancha at Gordon Bell. A pretty lady with a beautiful voice. My condolences to her siblings and her children, Andrea and Ryan. - Posted by: Alice Crawford (former neighbour) on: Nov 03, 2014

  • Arleigh was a neighbour of ours and a year ahead of me in the same schools when we were growing up. I always remember how pretty she was and her amazing voice. She was the lead singer in both musicals of West Side Story and The Man of La Marncha at Gordon Bell. She did a beautiful job in both plays and it was a joy to listen to her sing! To the Wylie family and her children, Andrea and Ryan, my condolences in the lost of your sister and mother. - Posted by: Alice Crawford (former neighbour) on: Nov 01, 2014
