SISTER MARGARET SEWELL (SOEUR MARIE DOROTHEE) Fille de la Croix October 31, 2014, Sister Margaret Sewell passed away at the residence of Villa Aulneau in St. Boniface at the ripe old age of 97 and 75 years of Religious Life. Sister Margaret was born in Lafleche, Saskatchewan, November 7, 1916. In 1937, after completing her High School studies, she went to La Puye, France to receive her religious formation in preparation to her consecration as a Religious with the Congregation of the Filles de la Croix. In 1939, she pronounced her first vows and came back to Manitoba to begin her apostolate service and later, in 1944, pronounced her final vows in St. Adolphe, Manitoba. Sister Margaret was predeceased by her parents Joseph Sewell and Annie Bourassa, as well as by her brothers: Edward, Father Eugene, Bernard and Howard, and sisters: Dorothy (Sister Alma Theresa), Elizabeth, Charlotte and Nora. She leaves to mourn her passing: sister in-law: Cécile Nobert as well as nieces , nephews and cousins. Sister Margaret took on a teaching career that lasted over 35 years in the Manitoba Schools of St. Adolphe, St. Malo, St. Claude, as well as in Willow Bunch and Lafleche, Saskatchewan. She ended her teaching as guidance counselor at the St. Boniface School Division. She then offered her services in Pastoral Care at St. Boniface Hospital for seven years, and for 15 years shared the lives of the people in 101 Marion. During her retirement years, Sister Margaret enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and keeping up with world events. She will be remembered as a free spirit, a deep thinker, always trying to understand the complexities of life and learning what it means to grow old gracefully. The Filles de la Croix express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Villa Aulneau as well as to the Palliative team for their excellent care towards Sister Margaret especially during her last days. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Chapel of Villa Aulneau, 601 Aulneau Street, St. Boniface, on Tuesday, November 4 at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at St. Adolphe Cemetery.   • Sister Margaret, known as Soeur Marie Dorothy in my school days. Always kept in touch with her and I visited her and she also come and spend a week with me on the lake with my family.
