LUCILLE BLANCHETTE (née GAUTHIER) Peacefully, on November 2, 2014, Lucille passed away at the age of 86. Lucille was born on June 12, 1928 to Adrian and Corrine Gauthier. She married Lucien Blanchette in 1948. They settled in Winnipeg after Lucien retired from the military. During the course of their lives they raised three children; Elaine, Gilbert, and Raymond. Lucille was a homemaker for most of her adult life but enjoyed working at the Grace Hospital for some years after her children grew up. Lucille was a vibrant and energetic person who loved life despite significant health challenges she faced starting with a diagnosis of cancer early on in her adult life. Lucille was a three time cancer survivor who bounced back each time to continue living her life to the fullest. Lucille was a hard working person from childhood. Her father passed in a tragic accident in 1936 which required Lucille to quit school and work to help support the family as a domestic helper. Lucille loved to travel and visited her daughter Elaine in Sweden, and her son Raymond in San Antonio, TX many times. She also enjoyed other opportunities to see the world. Lucille was predeceased by her husband Lucien in 1998. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Elaine (George) living in Sweden, her son Gilbert (Judy) of Landmark MB, and her son Raymond (Susan) of San Antonio, TX. She also has nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Actionmarguerite-Taché Centre for their care for Lucille during the sunset of her life. She will be missed but not forgotten. A memorial service will take place on Friday, November 7, at 10:00 a.m. at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons Street. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Lucille's life. Interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
