ELIZABETH RUTH VITT (HOOKER) March 19, 1959 - November 5, 2014 It is with extreme sadness that we have to accept the passing of Beth, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend. She fought the good fight against an insidious disease and she fought it for us, her family. She knew we needed every minute she could fight for before we could let her go, but she couldn't struggle anymore and we had to say goodbye. She is mourned by many, many people but first and foremost is her husband, partner and friend, Gary. He was by her side until the last minute. She also left behind loving and devoted children, Cory, Casie and Emily; her mother, Ruth Hooker; mother-in-law, Iris Vitt; sister, Joen Hadfield (nee Hooker); brothers, Roy (Sharon) and Leon Hooker; brothers-in-law, Randy (Deborah) and Joe (Debbie) Vitt; sister-in law, Laurie (Al) Page (nee Vitt). Beth was all about family and asked that all her nieces and nephews be listed in her obituary because they were important to her. She is loved by Jodi, Jane, Jessi and Jill (aka George) Hadfield; Matthew and Scott Hooker; Jason, Jared and Tyler Vitt; Adam and Kathleen Vitt; Cheryl Lemoine and Alison Walker; and this includes her many great-nieces and nephews. Beth was a great aunt in more ways than one. Beth's life was one of love and family. She married Gary when she was just 19. Gary's commitment to her at that time was demonstrated by the fact that he sold his teal blue, '69 Mach 1 Mustang to pay for their wedding, was followed by 36 years of love and commitment as they built a family, business, life and home together and punctuated at the end by the love he showed her through her final illness. Beth was devoted to and loved Gary through every day and year they were together. Her legacy is the family they created together, the home, including the gardens, she filled with love, comfort, support and family; the business partnership they created together, the friendships they made within the tradespeople of this area; and the volunteer time she committed to absolutely anything her children were involved in. Her children meant everything to her and she showed this in everything she did. She spent many, many hours volunteering with the dance committee, Chairing two safe grads and committing herself in whatever or however her children needed. I can't say enough of how Beth was all about family and having an open and loving home for her children, which expanded to embrace her nieces and nephews when they needed a comforting place to hang out and to her children's friends when a safe place was needed. When speaking of Beth, everybody mentions her smile. It was a smile that was always there. It was remarkable and open and bright and cheerful. It's impossible to think of Beth without remembering her beautiful, beautiful smile. Her smile and love of coffee. Those two traits were her trademarks. She started drinking coffee at age two, sneaking around and emptying any cup in the room and lasted until the very end, when she had drinking one more cup of coffee' on her bucket list. She succeeded and had a few more savoured cups of coffee towards the end. Funeral and service of remembrance will be held on Monday, November 10, 11:00 a.m. at the Selkirk United Church, 202 McLean Avenue, Selkirk, Manitoba. Lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the CancerCare Manitoba or the Selkirk United Church may be made in her memory. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
