BETTY HAZE January 3, 1926 - November 3, 2014 It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother - Betty Haze at the age of 88 years. Oma' leaves behind her cherished family to treasure her memory; her sister Marie Welch, her daughter Helga, granddaughter Jasmine and husband Rick. Especially dear were her great-grandchildren Colton and Katrice, who she loved unconditionally and dedicated herself to them every day, till the very end. They were her reason for being. Betty was predeceased by her husband Kurt Haze, of almost 62 years. Born in Nuremberg, Germany, Betty came to Canada in 1952 with her four year old daughter to meet up with her husband who had travelled ahead a year prior to set up a home. She journeyed with her small child on a two week ship ride to a foreign land to make a better life for their young family. Strictly speaking German at the time of her arrival she was able to learn, read and write English, and became a Canadian citizen. Betty stayed at home to raise their daughter, and eventually both Betty and Kurt took on the task to raise their granddaughter Jasmine, who they treated as their own child. Betty and Kurt enjoyed visits with her sister Marie who had also left Germany to live in the USA with her husband Frank, and in later years would enjoy weekend get-aways to North Dakota. Another favourite pastime for both Betty and Kurt was to travel to their vacation trailer in Hadashville on the weekends. Oma's biggest indulgence was watching her team - the Winnipeg Blue Bombers! Although she never went to a game, she followed them relentlessly never missing a game on TV, or the radio. Everyone had to know their schedule, cause if someone unfortunately called during a Blue Bomber game - you were in big trouble! In later years Betty enjoyed reading her Harlequin books, Saturday trips to Mary's to have her hair done, and shopping excursions with Jasmine. She especially enjoyed spending time with her sister Marie and chatting during their weekly phone calls with one another. Oma took joy in spending time with her great-grandchildren, Colton and Katrice spoiling them, and took care of them after school, making sure they were looked after, as her home was their home. She was a loving person and will be sadly missed and never forgotten as she will always be a part of our lives. To honour Betty's previous wishes, no funeral services will be held.
