Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBEN TOBER April 28, 1926 - November 5, 2014 It is with deep sadness that the family of Ben Tober announces his peaceful passing on Wednesday, November 5 at the age of 88 at the Victoria General Hospital. Ben was born on April 28, 1926 and grew up on a small farm in Moosehorn, Manitoba. He moved to Winnipeg at 16, where he started working at Swifts Canadian. While there he met his dear wife Helen, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage after wedding in 1953. They settled on St. Vital Road, raising their three daughters Darlene, Cindy and Janice where they lived until Ben retired at age 63 from the City of Winnipeg. They then moved into Kirchhoff Gardens. A man of faith, Ben was a long-time member of Faith Lutheran Church, and moving to Kirchhoff Gardens brought him closer to his church. Ben loved his family above everything else, including his extended family. Much fun was had camping over the years, finally resulting in the purchase of a mobile home at Hillside Beach in order to spend summers there with much of his family. He loved to play cards and was a master at the game of crib. He could amuse himself for hours playing solitaire, and doing jigsaw, crossword or word find puzzles. Ben was a kind, loving, gentle man who was always there for us. We will dearly miss him but we know that he was ready to go and be with his family and friends in heaven. He is predeceased by his parents John and Adele, and nine of his siblings. Ben will be lovingly remembered by his wife Helen (nee Hintz), his daughters Darlene Auld (Greg), Cindy Blair (Perry), and Janice (Paul Jarvis) as well as his brother John (Angie), and numerous nieces and nephews. The memorial service will take place on Tuesday, November 11 at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 1311 Dakota with a reception to follow. A private interment will take place separately attended by Ben's immediate family. The family would like to thank Dr. Brian Sharkey and the staff on 4N at Victoria Hospital for their thoughtful and compassionate care. We would also like to give our heartfelt thanks to Deacon Kris for her unending support that helped give us the courage to endure during this difficult time. Thank you, as well, to all of our friends and family for being there for us. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Faith Lutheran Church by mail or in person or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Dad, you will remain in our hearts forever.
