MABEL JONES We are saddened to announce the passing of Mabel Jones who passed away on Friday, November 7, 2014. Mabel leaves to mourn her dearly beloved husband David, her two sons Gregory (Michelle), Kevin (Kathy) and her three beautiful grandchildren Danielle, Alex, and Carissa. All of whom loved her deeply. Mabel was born in Garthland, Saskatchewan on October 1, 1939. Dave and Mabel moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1970. In 1972, the family moved to Southdale where Mabel and Dave brought up their to sons, Greg and Kevin. Mabel was a selfless person who put the needs of others always before herself. She was known as "mom" too many of the boy's friends and was a motherly figure to many children whom she took care of in her home daycare over the span of thirty years. Mom had an amazing talent when it came to baking. During Christmas time she would provide families and friends with Christmas baking, which became a tradition for mom for many years. As well, Mabel took great pride in keeping an immaculate yard, along with beautiful flower beds, that never contained a single weed. Mabel and Dave began attending St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church in 1973. One of Mabel's favourite times was serving as a Sunday School Teacher, and a Lay Reader, which she did for many years. Mabel was a wonderful Nana who treasured her time with her grandchildren and always made them feel extra special with her loving care. She made sure that she always told them how much she loved them. Special thanks goes to Dr. S. Frechette for many years of special care. Special thanks also goes to Mary Bakos who kept her hair beautiful for over 40 years. A service is to be held at St. Bartholomew's Church, 881 Autumnwood Drive on Tuesday, November 18 at 10:30 a.m., followed by a reception in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations are asked to be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0K6. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Auntie Mabel, thank you for everything. You cared for Kenny and I, you were always there to help our family, you baked up a storm, and you celebrated our milestones like you were a part of our family. You will always be Auntie Mabel to me. The beautiful lady across the street that babysat me, fed me homemade cookies, and made the BEST sloppy joes in town. My life is richer with you having been in it. Rest peaceful Auntie and I'll see you again some day. - Posted by: Carla De Ruyck (Bond) (Neighbor) on: Nov 17, 2014
