Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOSCAR GAGNON September 25, 1933 November 13, 2014 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Oscar, aged 81 years, at the Villa Youville in Ste.Anne, MB on November 13, 2014. Oscar is survived by: three brothers: Louis (Lynda), Gérard (Yvette) and Roland (Carmelle); and four sisters: Yvette Turenne, Claire (Gilles) Desorcy, Estelle (Guy) Taillefer, and Gilberte Friesen; and one sister-in-law, Lillian Gagnon, 28 nephews and nieces as well as many friends and relatives. He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul-Emile and Rosina Gagnon, one brother Joseph, one sister Jeannette, three brothers-in-law: Donat Desorcy, Wilfrid Turenne and Lorne Friesen; one nephew Ernie Gagnon and one niece Lucie Desorcy. Oscar was born and lived in La Broquerie all his life except for the last six months, where he was a resident at the Villa Youville. Oscar was a teacher for 35 years having taught in Marchand, Ste. Anne and La Broquerie. After his retirement at 55, he devoted his time and effort to his garden, his flower beds and his yard. He loved making a huge garden but ended up giving most of it away to family and friends. His first passion was his family. He organized get-togethers and always found a reason to celebrate and meet as a family: barbeques, Jamboree, Thanksgiving outing to Moose Lake, his hobby farm, the family game "Gagnon-en-Herbe", the Gagnon family book and many more. From a young age, he was a passionate hockey fan for the local team, the La Broquerie Habs, and his beloved Canadiens de Montreal. His involvement ranged from being a stick-boy at 15 for the first senior team in La Broquerie, to manager of Junior and Senior hockey teams, to director and president of the Club Sportif de La Broquerie. He ended his volunteer days being the "Voice of the Habs" and then simply watching as many games senior or minor hockey- as he could. Oscar was very community-minded. He was a director/president of the La Broquerie Chamber of Commerce , la Société Saint Jean-Baptiste, the Seine River Wildlife Association, the LaBroquerie Curling Club, Le Chalet de LaBroquerie , Le Club Sportif de LaBroquerie, Knights of Columbus and the centennial celebrations of Manitoba (1970) and La Broquerie (1983). A special thank you and appreciation to the staff at Villa Youville, to Soeur Rioux and Soeur Vermette and the many friends and relatives who visited him. Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday November 29, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Joachim Catholic Church in La Broquerie. Interment will follow in the St. Joachim cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Missionaries of Charity, 167 Atkins Street, Winnipeg, MB R2W 4G1. Arrangements by: BIRCHWOOD FUNERAL CHAPEL 1-204-346-1030 OR 1-888-454-1030

Mr. Gagnon was my grade 8 teacher in 1975-76 in Ste.Anne, MB. I learnt a lot from him and the most that I can remember were the two huge science projects we had created; types of trees and types of insects. He taught me well because now I am in my 50 ' s and I still recall those lessons and the weekly spelling tests. His door was always open and if I did not grasp what the day's lesson entailed, he would gladly stay in the classroom with me until I understood even though he needed his much deserved lunch break. My condolences to all his family and friends. May he rest in peace in God's paradise. - Posted by: Anita (Belisle) Funk (Grade 8 student in Ste.Anne in 1975) on: Nov 27, 2014
