ROBERT (BOB) JONES Peacefully, at the Gimli Community Health Centre, on Thursday, November 20, 2014, Robert (Bob) Jones of Sandy Hook, MB, passed away at the age of 69 years. Bob is survived by his loving wife Shirley; his mother Julie Perron; his sister-in-law Evelyn (Gil) Strachan; Aunt Rita, Uncle Andy (Noella), Aunt Darlene, Aunt Florence and their respective families; as well as a number of close friends. He was predeceased by his stepfather Bernard Perron; Aunt Dora (Mike); and uncles Armand, Paul, Lucien and Romeo. Bob grew up, resided and worked the majority of his life in Winnipeg. Bob was a sports fan whether it was hockey, baseball, or football. He was an avid golfer in his younger years and was a member of the Rossmere Country Club for a number of years. He would play as often as he could (three to four times a week). He also enjoyed the sport of 10-pin bowling and bowled in both leagues and tournaments before his retirement. In 1989, Bob and Shirley invested in a cottage in Sandy Hook where they loved to spend their vacation and spare time. Many get-togethers with family and friends were held at the cottage on 2nd Avenue throughout the next 14 years. Bob could usually be found sitting at the picnic table, lounging in the screened-in porch or roasting marshmallows over the fire pit. In 2003, Bob and Shirley decided to make Sandy Hook their permanent home. They bought a house on the Sandy Hook Golf Course. Bob loved to feed the birds and animals (rabbits/deer) that would saunter through the yard. In the last few years, Bob's favourite pastime was taking trips to the Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen, MN with his very close friends, Keith and Yvonne Kopansky, and Jerry Bohonos. The family would like to thank Dr. S.V. Patel and all the staff at Gimli Community Health Centre for their care and compassion shown to Bob. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 27, 2014 at the Norwood Hotel, 112 Marion Street, Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or to the Gimli Community Health Centre. LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements, 204-775-2220

  • Sorry to hear about Bob's passing. I recall the fun we had with the many rounds of golf that we played. Often he talked about how much he loved it out at Sandy Hook. I will think of Bobby, not so much with his passing, but how he will likely be scouting for golfing adventures in the great hereafter. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Shirley and ma tante. - Posted by: Rick Walker (Cousin-in-law) on: Nov 22, 2014
