Born: Mar 29, 1927
Date of Passing: Nov 21, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALEXANDER BORODENKO Peacefully at home, Alex passed away on November 21, 2014. Alex was born in Poland March 29, 1927. He was of Ukrainian ancestry immigrating to Canada with his family at the tender age of two. His family settled and farmed near Dominion City, MB where he was raised with his 10 siblings. He was a quiet man of few words who was proud of and loved his family. Alex is survived by his wife of 65 years Margaret, his son Gary (Linda), grandson Nicholas (Margret), great-grandchildren Sloane and Dexter; granddaughter Cynthia Smith (Trevor), great-grandchildren Adhara and Holdyn; daughter Sharon, granddaughter Vanessa and daughter Lin Conover (Roanna). When he reached school age, his family arranged for him to be boarded in Winnipeg so he could attend a school for the blind, only making it home for special holidays. Alex worked for over 42 years with the CNIB in many capacities, although his fondest were managing the canteen at the General Hospital (H.S.C.) at the main floor entrance and the cafeteria at C.N. Transcona Shops. Dad enjoyed bowling and was a founding member of the North West Mixed Blind 10 Pin Bowling League, an organization that has been operating for over 50 years. He enjoyed watching the Blue Bombers on TV or listening to the play by play on the radio and was a big fan. Dad also liked playing poker and dominos with family members and handicapping the "ponies" when he could get out to the "Downs". Going camping with the family every summer was his retreat and treat. Starting off tenting, graduating to a tent trailer and finally a 23 foot trailer parked at Idle Wheels campground near Gimli. Dad loved dogs and enjoyed taking Nugget and later Feline for a walk, especially at the lake. The family would like to thank Vickie, Home Care Coordinator at Transcona Access and the WRHA home care staff involved with Dad's personal care over the years. A celebration of his life will take place on Friday, November 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Saviors' Anglican Church, 690 Monroe Ave (corner of Grey Street and Monroe Avenue), East Kildonan with a private family interment to follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Saviors' Anglican Church or the CNIB. Desjardins 233-4949 1-888-233-4949 www.desjardinsfuneralchapel.ca
