GEORGE BILAN It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of George Bilan in Gimli, MB at the age of 86. Left to mourn are his daughter Michelle Bilan, (Bruce Crouter) of Regina and his son Mark Bilan (Naomi) of Winnipeg, as well as his grandsons Tanner, Cole and Torrin, and his brother Bill. George was predeceased by his beloved wife Denise and his sister Mary. George was born on the family farm near Petersfield on March 21, 1928. He began his working life as a truck driver, hauling freight and milk to Winnipeg. Later he spent many hours hauling gravel and snow when not working on the farm. George took great pride in his knowledge of Winnipeg streets, and his love of driving continued to the end of his life. Many will remember seeing him driving around the countryside looking for deer (or a cup of coffee). George lived his entire adult life in Matlock, where he met Denise, married, raised a family and enjoyed community life. He was a long-time member of the Matlock Recreation Club and served for many years on the St. Andrew's Volunteer Fire Department. George loved fiddle music, dancing, meeting people and reminiscing about local history. He and Denise were regulars in front of the Dairy Bee in Winnipeg Beach on summer evenings, chatting and watching daily life unfold. George was a kind, honest and hard-working man who loved his family dearly. George's family will be holding a private funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in George's name to Gimli Betel Home Foundation. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
