MARY BAREFOOT (nee CHMILOWSKY) February 1925 November 2014 On the morning of Tuesday, November 25, 2014, our dear sweet mother, Mary Barefoot passed away suddenly and peacefully. She is survived by our father, her husband of 71 years, Frank Barefoot whom she met during the Second World War. They married just prior to his being shipped out for action. Frank still resides at Donwood Manor in North Kildonan where Mary and Frank have been a part of the community since 2008. Mary was all about family. Close to her brothers and sisters and their families and devoted to her own family and her two sons who survive her. Gordon (and wife Cheryl) and Randolph. Mary is also survived by her granddaughter Rebecca (and husband Wayne). Born in the Polish occupied part of Ukraine, Mary at age four immigrated with her mother and father, Anastasia and Michael Chmilowsky to Manitoba in 1929. She was the eldest daughter of a family of seven siblings and is predeceased by brothers Fred, Steve, Harry and sister Ann. Brothers John (and wife Anna) and Walter survive her. Mary is also survived by more than 20 nieces and nephews. She will also be greatly missed by her very loving and caring Goddaughter Pat Paterson. She was wonderful cook, kept an immaculate home and had a strong work ethic. Mary and Frank hosted numerous parties and dinners at holiday times. They also enjoyed a great many trips with friends and family across the line and to the many local beaches. We shall miss her greatly and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was more than just a mother and friend. She was a teacher, a guiding light and just good fun to know. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 29, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, Manitoba. Join us and our father Frank for coffee and a bite to eat at Donwood Manor after 11:30 a.m. at 171 Donwood Dr. following the service. Glen Eden Funeral Home and Cemetery 338-7111

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • We are very saddened at the news that Mary is no longer with us. We have so many fond memories of Mary and Frank as neighbours and good friends for five years in the 70s back in Montreal. She had such a talent for making the most incredible goodies, especially around the holidays. Her impeccable housekeeping has inspired me to keep trying to keep up to her, even now. I can't say I ever will achieve her standard of excellence, there is no one like her. We had so much fun in the old days with Mary and Frank, and won't forget their smart little dog that she cherished, Blackie. Always in our hearts Mary. - Posted by: Len and Joanne Gosling (Old neighbours and friends) on: Dec 01, 2014

  • I am very sorry for your loss. My grandparents (Harry & Sylvia Korobchuk) were close friends and I remember all too well my Baba reminiscing about time spent with "The Barefoots" ... the shopping, the dinners and the laughs. Sharing in your sorrow. It's never easy saying goodbye. - Posted by: Suzanne (Granddaughter to the late Sylvia & Harry Korobchuk) on: Nov 28, 2014
