Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOYCE MEHLING (nee FREUND) January 14, 1943 November 30, 2014 It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Mom, Joyce Mehling. Left to mourn her passing are her children Derrick (Gaylene) Mehling and their sons Lyle (Shelley), Cole (fiancée Samantha) and Trent (special friend Kallyn), daughter Lori Hrabluik (Les) and her daughter Danielle (Kevin), son Kevin (Michelle) Mehling and their daughters Melissa and Kayla. Also left to mourn her are her three sisters: Elsie Schilke, Elma Drzewiec, and Norma Lyndon; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Linda Freund, Norman (Glorian) Mehling, Dennis (Phyllis) Mehling, Shirley (Ernie) Hollender, Lorne (Angie) Mehling, Brenda Mehling and good friend Cindy Hayman. Joyce was predeceased by her husband Mel on October 25, 2014. Mom was born and raised on the family farm in Trentham, MB. She went to school till grade seven until the passing of her mother, when she stayed home to help on the family farm. After her Dad retired and remarried, they moved to Steinbach. Mom then worked at the sewing factory, where she met Dad, they kept running into each other at youth and choir. They were married on September 2, 1961. They moved to Portage la Prairie in 1962, where they had three children. Mom was a homemaker and was involved with Kinettes. Mom was always known for her cooking, especially her potato salad. She spent countless hours sewing. She made a tradition of giving every grandchild a homemade baby blanket. She even supervised the making of the baby blanket for her first great-grandchild due in March. Mom spent many hours helping Dad with the family business. She also enjoyed many camping trips, business conventions, winter holidays, and most of all, her time spent with family and friends at the cabin. After being diagnosed with cancer in 2011, she fought hard and stayed strong at home, until she was hospitalized in October of 2014. Mom's sister Norma was with us for a month helping care for Dad and Mom when Dad joined Mom a week later in the hospital until his passing on October 25, 2014. She stayed in the hospital until November 22, 2014. Mom came home to spend her last days with her family. Her granddaughter Danielle was the primary care-giver for Mom and was always at her side. Danielle always had a gentle touch and a loving kiss to bestow on Mom. The Lord's Prayer and Psalm 23 were Mom's greatest comforts. Mom's faith was strong throughout her battle. She passed away on November 30, 2014, with her family by her side. She is now in peace and with our Dad. The family would like to thank the Bethesda Hospital doctors and staff and the CancerCare staff. Also a special thank you to Dr. Karen Toews, Debbie Krahn, Jeanette Morgan, Pauline Gosselin at Palliative Care; Birchwood Funeral Chapel, St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Pastor Terry Gudmundson, and all our family and friends, for all their prayers and support.
