She had a very sharp, sarcastic sense of humour that would keep everyone on their toes. Funeral service will be held Friday, December 19, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Alphonsus Parish, 315 Munroe Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, with reception to follow. A private family interment will take place. • Ah, Eleanor! Such a wonderful tribute to a woman whose timing and wit left a wake of smiles. And whose depth and love passed on a blessing that left a mark. Debbie, grace to you through this short separation, until you can see over the horizon too. "God bless" she would say so often, and He really did that through her. And my smile and teary eyes tell me I'll continue receiving this blessing when I'm reminded of Eleanor in many corners of Bethania. Psalm 116:15 "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints" - Posted by: Patty Doerksen (Friend at BPCH, acquaintance of Debbie) on: Jan 09, 2015

  • Agree with the above. It is truly hard to imagine Bethania without Eleanor around. Her sharp wit often caught me by surprise. - Posted by: Selma Pauls (volunteer at BPCH) on: Jan 03, 2015

  • I am very sorry for your loss. I just learned of your mom's passing today while at Dad's memorial. Aunty Eleanor was a great auntie. I used to bump into her from time to time when she would be at McIvor mall....She too will be missed very much. God Bless you all. - Posted by: sharon howard (niece) on: Dec 31, 2014

  • Dearest Debbie, Robert and Greg and families: The comments above truly capture the spirit and vitality of your Mother. She too was born a pioneer of our wonderful land and helped make it what it is for all of us. One of a pioneering family who created a farm in Glennfields MB. She and her 13 siblings certainly all knew how to work and passed that ethic on to others. My family and I got to know your Dad best because of his work with CN Rail / VIA. His spirit, respect for others, and vitality was a perfect match for your Mom. Warmest hugs and Wishes to you all. • I always enjoyed stopping to chat with her and her table mates at Bethania. I was one of those "stuck-ups" if I ever walked by in a hurry and forgot to say hi! But we enjoyed kidding each other. She was a good friend and will be missed greatly by all of us. Our Deepest Sympathies to the family. - Posted by: Paul Klassen (Friend, Bethania Staff) on: Dec 19, 2014

  • Dear family and friends of Eleanor. I loved this lady especially because of her sharp tongue. She was alive. So I would say to her on numerous occasions....... Okay 'bib' lady where is my mom's bib? She would give me that look and very angrily point out..... it is NOT a bib. it is an apron!!!!!! I will miss her terribly. Rest in the Lord Eleanor. - Posted by: Marilyn Swain (friend (my mom is at BPCH)) on: Dec 18, 2014

  • To Eleanor's family Eleanor was a very special person. I first came to know her while working at Good Neighbours Senior Centre. She was very involved as a volunteer on the social committee. This was a perfect place for a very sociable person. She ran that kitchen with skill and humour. She made us laugh. You never knew what was going to pop out of her mouth. However, behind all the hilarity which was her, was a sadness for all the changes in her life. Our paths crossed again when our Mom was a resident at Bethania. I watched as she spent time helping all those around her. She greeted everyone who entered the home as she perched in the big easy chair by the door. She said hello to all. If you didn't acknowledge her she would yell, "Hey, stuck-up!" Her presence will be missed by everyone! Lynda Jones - Posted by: Lynda Jones (Acquaintance) on: Dec 18, 2014
