He is survived by his loving wife Julie (nee Fernandes), children Maureen Penko, Judy Rigby and Gerard (Donna), eight beautiful grandchildren, Lauren and Stephen Penko, Jordan, Sierra and Aidan Rigby, Nicole Taylor, Luke and Priya D'Souza and sister Katherine. He was predeceased by his second child Mary (1956). Ben was born in the family home, known as Inn's Lodge, in Mangalore, India to Peter and Flora D'Souza and was the youngest of ten children. He graduated from St. Aloysius College in Mangalore with a degree in Business Administration. The highlights of his career included being the Bursar of the International School in Tanzania, Africa; attaining his Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation and being the Controller of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. So sad to hear of the passing of our dear friend, Ben. We had the great pleasure of meeting Ben and his family in 1968. We were blessed to call him our friend, our son's Godfather, and a supportive member of the community. His love of family & friends, sense of loyalty, and generosity of spirit will be sadly missed, along with his witty one-liners. Our thoughts and prayers are with Julie and family. Condolences to the family at this time. Let us remember and cherish the happy memories we all shared with Ben. His wonderful kind personality will live on through his children and grandchildren. It was fun sharing an afternoon with him at St. Boniface, especially seeing the similarities between Ben and my dad. Praying they are both having a good laugh together, and reminiscing about Africa, Golf and the all good times shared. - Posted by: Pia, Annette, and Priscilla Athayde () on: Dec 30, 2014

I first met Ben Golfing with my dad. It was always a fun time golfing with the old guys. Later on I went to the same church as Ben and Julie. Ben helped convinced me to become a brother Knight. If there is a golf course in heaven I'm sure my dad and Rudy Lipps have already made reservations for Ben for his first round. Ben you and your family are In my thoughts and prayers. - Posted by: Mark Desjardins (Golfer and fellow Knight) on: Dec 29, 2014
