JAY JAYABALAN It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Jay Jayabalan on December 27, 2014 at the age of 54 years. Jay was predeceased by his dad Duraisingam Chelliah. Jay will be sadly missed by his mother Padmapathy Duraisingam, brother Paran Singam (Kisa Erickson), daughters Janusha and Natasha Jayabalan, son Kiran Jayabalan and nieces Dazreen and Delareen Paran. He will also be dearly missed by Shyamala Jayabalan, Marlene Jayabalan and Pushpa Arumugam, as well as many close relatives and friends throughout the world. Jay was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on December 15, 1960 to Duraisingam and Padmapathy Chelliah. Jay flourished in school with entrance into the prestigious Victoria institution where he completed his secondary education and was awarded Queen's English distinction. He was always proud of his command of the English language, amusing his nieces and children with his pronunciation of some words, such as chef and squirrel to name a few. Following graduation, he moved to the UK to pursue further education in computer science and then immigrated to Canada in 1988. After a year in Toronto, he moved to Winnipeg and began a long, successful career in IT at MTS. In the late 1990s, he accepted a senior position back in Malaysia where he spent several years before returning to Winnipeg. He made many friends over these years who will never forget their time with him. Jay was a brilliant, well-spoken man that would strike up a conversation and spend time with anyone, regardless of social status. He always was the life of a party, flashing his great big smile and entertaining everyone from the children to the adults. We will always remember him for his generosity, jovial character, unique quotes, jokes and wonderful personality. Jay touched many hearts around the globe especially his cousins and friends in Malaysia, United Kingdom, United States and Canada. In the last months of Jay's life, he also became very close with his children and created a strong bond the kids will cherish forever. The family wishes to thank everyone who has supported us during our time of need by providing meals, helping with arrangements and just being there to listen and share stories of happier times with Jay. Viewing will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2015 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue, across from Brookside Cemetery.
