FLORENCE MARGARET WEST It is with deep sadness we announce that Mom passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on Sunday, December 28, 2014, at the age of 92. Florence will lovingly be remembered by her children, Sandra Smuttell (Allan), Linda Gunderson, and Rick West (Lorraine). She is also remembered by her five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is survived by her two sisters Freda and Betty and many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her husband Garden, a son Robert, and two sons-in-law Carter Gunderson and Jim Kowalchuk, her two brothers Jack and Art, and her sister Kay. Mom was a talented homemaker, an excellent seamstress and enjoyed making clothes for all of her children. She knitted, crocheted and did needlepoint. Jams and preserves were her specialty and she also loved to bake. We all said that her shortbread was the best. She started her career making many home made meals at the Bus Depot in Selkirk. While working there she made many friends and was well known for rolling out great food. Mom then went on to work for Home Care, offering her care and compassion for those in need. Mom and Dad spent many happy times camping with family and friends. She was an avid 5 pin bowler as well as an accomplished cribbage and canasta player. After Dad passed away in 2008 Mom moved to Betel Home. While there Mom continued one of her passions which was painting. She also looked forward to her Tuesday Bingo games and the visits to her room by the accordion player. In keeping with Mom's wishes cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held. Archdeacon Godfrey Mawejje will officiate. The family would like to thank the staff at Betel Home for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arthritis Society, Manitoba Region, #105-386 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 3R6 Those we love don't go away They walk beside us every day Unseen, unheard, but always near, Still loved, still missed and very dear. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
