Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN PLETT (nee KJARTANSON) Solveg Helen Edith Plett February 17, 1935 - December 23, 2014 Sadly, Helen Plett passed away December 23, 2014, at the Women's Hospital, Health Sciences Centre, after a brief devastating battle with ovarian cancer. Left to mourn her passing are her husband Vern, son Guy (Kathy), grandchildren: Elizabeth Ross (Don), Guy William; great-grandchildren: William, Cameron, Alyssa, Ella; sisters Hazel MacLeod (Malcolm) and Vivian Stunden (William) and numerous other family members. Helen was predeceased by her father Julius 1970, her mother Gudbjorg 1994, her siblings Jules 1999, Dorothy Tuck (Roy) 2002, Kjartan 1996, Gwen Jackett (Roy) 2002, Evelyn Clark (Jimmy) 1976, John 2014 and Terry 1996. As with all her siblings, she was an at-home, mid-wife delivered baby, born in Winnipeg, February 17, 1935. She attended Daniel MacIntyre Collegiate and was active in sports, excelling in speed skating. Her further education that created her superior accounting skills included receiving her certification in mathematical applications at Felt and Tarrant Comptometer School, on the job computer training and regular professional development training during her employment at Deloitte and Touche. She worked as Office Manager and Chief Accountant at many businesses, last serving as an Accounting Professional at Mennonite Family Life. Family was always first with Helen, with a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Planning the Kjartanson get-togethers was a priority that was appreciated by the entire family as was her role as main caregiver during her mother's declining years. She enjoyed the travels with her sister Vivian that were involved during their time with International Training in Communication as well as other travels they undertook. Friday was a special day for her as for years she, her brother John and sister Vivian met for brunch. The Friday tradition was carried on after John's April death when she and Vivian did an afternoon movie and dinner. Helen has been an avid volunteer all her life, serving in many senior positions as a member of Elmwood Mennonite Brethren Church, as a member of International Training in Communications in many upper-level capacities, Central Y Tankers Swim Club, Manitoba Amateur Wrestling Association, Instructor of Aquafit classes to mention a few of the many she shared her talents with. Needless to say she was Treasurer, Auditor, and/or Controller for the many organizations she was a member of. Helen will be missed by all and will be remembered for her generous, thoughtful, caring and steady manner. Those we love don't go away, They walk beside us every day, Unseen, unheard but always near, Always loved, always missed, And very dear. Sincere appreciation is extended to Dr. Christine Robinson, the gynecology-oncology team and the kind and caring staff of Level 5 of the Women's Hospital, Health Sciences Centre. Flowers are graciously declined. Instead we ask that a donation be made in Helen's memory to Ovarian Cancer Research, Mennonite Family Life, The Mennonite Central Committee or a charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service and reception celebrating Helen's life will be held at Elmwood Mennonite Brethren Church, 145 Henderson Hwy., Winnipeg, Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at at 1:00 p.m. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

Helen was my sister but also a "best" friend. She had a wonderful positive attitude which made spending time with her special. Helen had a strong faith which she often shared with me. I cherish the relationship I had with her - and still have with her!! - Posted by: Hazel MacLeod (sister) on: Jan 02, 2015

Helen was an answer to our prayers when she joined the staff of FLN (Family Life Network), now known as Square One World Media. Her standard of professionalism and wealth of experience soon became known as the "HP factor" and is still referred to in glowing terms. Helen's presence is missed but her influence will not soon be forgotten. - Posted by: Claude Pratte (Former employer) on: Dec 31, 2014

I'll always remember with fondness growing up in the west end and our family bus trips to visit auntie Helen, uncle Vern, and Guy in their home off of Stafford, and wandering through the bush out back with Guy in what is now Grant Ave, then our one trip out west to visit with them in Calgary on our trip to the west coast. Thank-you for the fond memories! - Posted by: Kurt Plett (Nephew) on: Dec 30, 2014
