FRANK J. BAKER Peacefully on December 29, 2014 Frank passed away at Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg with family at his side. Frank was predeceased by his parents Henry and Jo Baker. He'll be lovingly remembered by his wife Cheryl Jourdain, stepson Mike, daughter Nicole, son Greg (Alyssa), grandchildren Logan, Morganne, Emily and Anna, brother Jim (Lynn), nephew Matt (Jodene and Osborn), Cheryl's brothers and sisters, Opa Frank Wildenmann, and Nicole and Greg's mother Jan (Leo). He will also be missed by his devoted canine companion K.T. After spending his early years in Elmwood, Frank graduated with a BA from United College, and an LLB from the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba where he was Senior Stick of his class. He was subsequently awarded the honour of being appointed by the Province as a Queen's Counsel. He practiced law in Beausejour until he became ill. When he recovered from cancer treatment, his love of knowledge led him on a path of study, first at the University of Winnipeg, and then at St. Andrews College at the University of Saskatchewan where he attained a Masters Degree in Theological Studies. Frank was passionate about his involvement, first, in the Navy Sea Cadets, and later in the University Naval Training program, from which he retired as a commissioned officer. This involvement saw him spend summers on both coasts in Canada, and on board ship travelling to ports in the UK and France. He was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion and had the honour of being Chaplain for a time for Beausejour Branch No. 132. Frank served on the Manitoba Telephone System Board of Directors and was also happy to devote his time to many not for profit boards. He was especially proud of his role as president (founding member) of the Brokenhead Recreation Complex Inc. Frank was a very proud hockey, soccer, football, ringette, swimming, lifeguarding, and music, dad and stepdad. He was also a proud grandfather of four grandchildren who truly cherished him. Frank's transition from law to church and board work was fueled by his commitment to justice and to helping people wherever they were at. He will be remembered by many for his service to the community. We would like to thank all of our friends and family who accompanied us through this most recent health concern, and who continue to offer support, friendship and many, many prayers. Thank you also to staff at Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg (B1) who helped us care for Frank over the years. Memorial service will be held Friday, January 2, 2015, 1:30 p.m. at Immanuel United Church, 755 Golspie Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3L 0K6 or CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3E 0V9, or a charity of your choice. My condolences to the family of Frank. I did not know Frank personally; however, I did hear about him from others. His obituary speaks about the strong relationship he had with the community especially in Beausejour - this reflects the words of those who knew him. I have come to understand that Frank was an honourable man who provided much service as a cadet and officer of the navy, a chaplain, and a member of his community. I sense that even though he will be missed, he will be kept in the hearts of many. My heartfelt condolences to Frank's family. - Posted by: Fjola Hart Wasekeesikaw (Friend to Cheryl) on: Jan 02, 2015
