Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDITH MARIA IDA HYSLOP (nee COSTANTINI) It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Edith Maria Ida Hyslop, December 31, 2014, at Misericordia Place in Winnipeg at the age of 98. Edith was predeceased by her beloved husband James Russell Hyslop in 1985; her parents: Piacentina Gentile and Cesidio Costantini who had immigrated from Villalago, Aquila, Italy; and her siblings: Lucia Iafolla (Mauro), Domenico Costantini (Margaret), Mary Lalingo (Frank), Sylvio Raphael Constantine, and Dr. William Anthony Costantini. She will be lovingly remembered by her two sisters-in-law: Kay Constantine and Rose Costantini; her nieces and nephews; her cousins; and many dear friends that meant so much to her. She was born August 22, 1916, in Winnipeg, where she lived all her life. She worked many years for the City of Winnipeg in the Assessment Department. She was married to James Russell Hyslop May 18, 1953. She spent many happy times at her cottage at Ponemah Beach on Lake Winnipeg and travelling many places throughout Canada, the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean Islands, and Italy. She was an active parishioner of Holy Rosary Church and was very charitable to many organizations. She devoted a lot of her time to take care of her mother, her nieces and nephews. She enjoyed music, family sing-alongs, cooking Italian meals, reading health related books, learning about financial management, square dancing, socializing with her friends, and caring for her cats. She loved life and didn't want to age. The family would like to express their gratitude to the kind staff at Misericordia Place and Poseidon Care Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations in Edith's name may be made to any charity of your choice. The funeral will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Avenue in Winnipeg. The viewing will be at 10:00 a.m., and the Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the St. Mary's Cemetery, 520 Osborne Street in Winnipeg. I worked with Edith in the Assessment Dept. and we became friends and socialized over the years. It has been about 2 years since I have seen her. She was a great person and was amazing for her age. May she rest in peace. ps she would never tell us her age. - Posted by: Pamm Routley (Friend/Co-Worker) on: Jan 17, 2015

Ida was a long time friend to my mom's family (The Gentiles). I always enjoyed seeing her and spending time with her. She was a true lady. We invited her to our wedding almost 8 years ago and she look so elegant and beautiful. She never, of course, let anyone know her age and I CANNOT beleive she was 91 at that time. All the best to her family during this time. - Posted by: Elena Stangherlin (Friend) on: Jan 05, 2015

I have known Ida all my life. She was very kind to our family. I admired her, as she was always very happy and loved life. When my mom was in the Victoria Hospital a few years ago, she was so good to my mom. She would talk to mom and ask mom to tell her stories about the village of Villalago, where iad's parents come from. Ida was so happy tp hear the old stries. The other memory we have, is Ida driving up our driveway, and we could not see anyone behind the wheel! She loved her big car. See was a great lady. Edith was a long time family friend of the Schoors. We considered her an Auntie. Ken's mother Helen and Edith knew each other since they were in high school and Edith was maid of honour at Helen's wedding and became Godmother to Ken. Edith and Helen remained lifelong friends and Edith and Jim joined the Schoor and Buccini family on many occasions to celebrate family events. We also remember spending fun times hosted by Edith and Jim at their beach cottage. Even in their later years when Edith and Helen were not so mobile, they spent many hours on the telephone discussing, some might say arguing, about current events. The Schoor family join the Costantini and Hyslop families in mourning the loss of a wonderful lady and dear friend. - Posted by: Ken and Sharon Schoor (Edith was Ken's Godmother) on: Jan 04, 2015
