MARY LUTY (nee ZEMBIK) 1932 - 2015 Mary Luty, aged 82 years, passed away on the morning of January 4, 2015 at Seven Oaks General Hospital in Winnipeg. Mary was predeceased by her parents Ignace and Pauline Zembik, and her brother Edward. She is survived by her husband, Mike; daughters Darlene (Charles) and Deborah (Pete); grandchildren Francine (Hawk), Wayne (Leanne) and Robert; sisters Lily Prokopchuk and Diana Dunford (Wayne), as well as brother Donnie Zembik (Virginia). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Mary was born in Chatfield, Manitoba on January 15, 1932. She was the oldest of five children. She moved to Winnipeg in 1948, first working as a mother's helper and later in a sewing factory. She married Mike on June 13, 1953. They resided in their first home in Winnipeg's North End until 1976 when they moved to their second home in The Maples. Mary was a nature lover. She had a passion for gardening and was an avid birder. She was an accomplished seamstress and always enjoyed visits with "her ladies". She especially treasured summers spent out at the family cottage on Lake Manitoba, where she relished the sunsets, water, birds, trees and fresh air. Mary loved family get-togethers and cooked expansive meals on these occasions. Above all, she cherished her grandchildren. She was generous with her time and skills and was always willing to lend a hand when needed. Mary lived with cardiac disease for many years, but she refused to allow it to prevent her from doing anything she wanted. In later years, she was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease which eventually became too challenging for her. Memorial service will be held Friday, January 9, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. Interment and reception will follow. Donations may be made in memory of Mary to The Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6, or Parkinson Society Manitoba, 7-414 Westmount Drive, Winnipeg, MB R2J 1P2. I'm so glad I was able to visit with Auntie Mary during the Christmas break. Her memory was always sharp as a tack and she proved that by immediately recognizing me. My sympathies, Melissa Zembik - Posted by: Melissa Zembik (Niece ) on: Jan 07, 2015
