LENA PRAZNUIK (PRASIAZNUIK) Peacefully on January 7, 2015 Lena Praznuik, aged 95, passed away at Holy Family Nursing Home. Lena was predeceased by her husband Tony in 2007; her parents Karl and Effie; brothers Mike, Steve, Bill and John, and sister Anne. She is survived by her daughter Janet, son-in-law Barry Iverson, grandsons Adam and Lee, son Ken and daughter-in-law Pam. Born Lena Kywyryga in Vita on September 29, 1919, Lena grew up on the family farm near Caliento, Manitoba. In her teen years she moved to Grand Pointe where her family operated a farm. Lena lived briefly in Vancouver but returned to Grand Pointe where she met Tony from neighbouring Lorette West. They married in 1951 and settled in Prairie Grove where her children were born. Lena worked hard all her life maintaining a home, looking after animals and tending to huge gardens. She was a legendary cook, able to prepare scrumptious meals for many people in no time. Nothing gave her more pleasure than a house full of people enjoying her food. Together with her husband Tony, they enjoyed their life in Prairie Grove. They were active in their community and church. Lena was particularly active in 4-H and a lifelong member of Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church and its women's league. Lena enjoyed her retirement years having an opportunity to travel with her husband to visit friends and relatives throughout Canada and the U.S. In 2006 she and Tony moved to Dakota House in St. Vital. After Tony's death in 2007, Lena continued to live in Dakota House until last year. There she made many friends and enjoyed excellent care from staff and homecare. During the past year Lena was fortunate in being a resident of Holy Family Nursing Home. She once again made many friends and received exceptional care from dedicated staff. Lena was a woman of faith and lived her life in a truly Christian manner. She was generous to a fault and had a genuine concern about the well-being of others particularly family members and animals. Lena endured significant pain and suffering over her life from many serious ailments. A determined fighter, she battled them all with quiet dignity. Divine Liturgy and prayers will be held at 10:00 a.m. on January 17, 2015 at Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 390 Marion Street, Winnipeg. Interment will follow at Green Acres Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Family Building Fund in care of Lubov Foundation, 1085 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB R2W 3S1, or a charity of your choice. Dear Janet and Barry. I am so sorry to hear of your Mother's passing. I remember you telling me how wonderful a cook she was and despite the fact that her fingers hurt her so much, she continued to make her perogies. What a caring woman she had to have been! So very sorry for your loss. Your friends Delores and Casey Wnuk - Posted by: Delores wnuk (Friend of Janet and Barry) on: Jan 12, 2015
