NORMAN WILLIAM BURR It is with profound sadness that, we the family, announce the peaceful passing of Norman William Burr on January 7, 2015, at the age of 83. Norm was the youngest of two children born to William Burr and Ethel Alice Burr (nee Swatland), on March 8, 1931 in Winnipeg, MB. He and his older brother Ken spent all of their childhood in Winnipeg's West End. Norm met the love of his life, Edna Paul and they were married on November 5, 1952. In the years to come, Norm and Edna would become proud parents to three beautiful children, Raymond, Edwin and Linda Burr and would spend the remainder of his life living and working in the south end of Winnipeg. As a father, Norm enjoyed travelling with his family to sunny vacation spots or camping, including several years at Falcon Lake. Additionally, Norm enjoyed for many years, golfing and curling with friends and family. Norm's greatest achievements and recognition came from his 36 years of dedication to the Winnipeg Police Service. In 1957, Norm began his career as a police officer for what was then known as City of St. Vital, he quickly began making a name for himself and a reputation for being a dedicated police officer. Norm was recognized for his hard work and dedication and received many promotions throughout his career and when he retired, in 1993, he had achieved the Detective Sargent II designation as well as the title of "oldest working detective". Throughout his career, Norm garnered respect and admiration from many of his peers as a result of his vast experience and wisdom. Up until his final moments, Norm cherished his friendships, was an avid reader, always enjoyed a good murder mystery and found so much happiness spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Norm will be forever remembered and cherished by his wife of 62 years, Edna Burr (nee Paul), his three children, Raymond, Edwin and Linda Cheung (nee Burr), his daughter-in-law Lisa, his grandchildren Chad, Scott, Sharon and Michael, his great-grandchildren, Cohen, Cooper and Chloe, as well as many close friends and former colleagues. Norm was predeceased by his parents, William and Ethel Burr, his brother Ken, and daughter-in-law Cheryl. A special thanks to both the staff at St. Boniface Hospital, who worked tirelessly to help Norm throughout his courageous battle with cancer as well as the staff at Poseidon Care Centre for helping to support, care and comfort Norm during his final days. Family members, friends and former colleagues are invited to join in a celebration of his life on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Neil Bardal Funeral Centre located at 3030 Notre Dame Ave. (across from Brookside Cemetery). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

Truly saddened to hear of Norm's passing. I had the distinct honour of working along side Norm on many occasions during investigations and operations. He was a lifetime detective who was the best of the best at his job. He will be truly missed. Condolences to the family. To my old friend Norm William Burr my school chum 1938 who rode with me through many a forest on both pedal power and then motorized power before putting the ring on Edna's finger. I will never forget our buying our first motorcycle together for numerous rides across North America and then eventually sharing rides on our own personal bikes...Perhaps God has a Triumph you can borrow...until I see you again - Posted by: Patrick (Billy) Watt (Old School Chum & Motorcycle Pal) on: Jan 17, 2015
