MAUREEN MARIE COOK (nee DHEERE) Surrounded by her family, Maureen Marie Cook (nee Dheere) passed away peacefully on January 5, 2015 at the age of 57. She was the backbone of her family and the most caring soul to those who loved her. Her life was filled with love and warmth. We shall remember her passion for her beautiful gardens and carefully tended flowers, gorgeous photography, and most important to her , her family. Maureen was the most devoted mother to her children, and her limitless commitment to them made them truly know what it is to be loved. Her devotion to her husband was also unending, and they shared 33 beautiful years together. Maureen was born June 13, 1957 to loving parents Marcel and Jacqueline (nee Gallant) Dheere in Winnipeg, MB. She grew up in the St. Boniface area with her older sister, and best friend, Marti and her younger brother Doug. Maureen graduated from Louis Riel Collegiate in 1975 and then pursued studies in Regina to become a Dental Nurse. After successfully completing her degree, Maureen traveled throughout Europe, then returned to Winnipeg to work as a Dental Nurse. In 1980, Maureen met her beloved future husband Doug Cook and they were happily married in 1981. Maureen and Doug enjoyed many years together, spending time with their nieces and nephews, but they wanted a child of their own. And in 1992 they were blessed with their daughter Kate, and were again blessed with their son Noah in 1996. With her family complete, Maureen, Doug, Kate and Noah spent many happy years together, busy with dance rehearsals, hockey practice, late homework reports, as well as any obstacle that came their way. Although both Maureen and her family would have wished for many more years together, she shared with us all many times how happy she was with her life and that she had no regrets. She leaves to mourn her husband Doug Cook, her children Kate (Ian) and Noah, as well as her mother Jacqueline Dheere and mother and father in law Violet and Gordon Cook, and siblings Marti, Doug (Jackie) Dheere. As well as sister-in-law Lois (Wayne) and brother-in-law Jim. As well as her nieces and nephews; Jordan, Evan (Krissy), Sarah, Adam (Kristen), Ben, Travis, Christine (Justin), and Brad (Kristy). Maureen was predeceased by her father Marcel Ching' Dheere, and we know that he will have greeted her with loving arms. We would like to thank Maureen's oncologist Dr. Dhaliwhal and nurse Deborah at St. Boniface Hospital for their dedication and commitment to her well-being. We would also like to extend our thanks to the nursing staff of the St. Boniface Hospital palliative care team for their wonderful care and compassion to both Maureen and the family in her final hours. And finally, a huge thank you to all of our friends and family who have been beyond supportive throughout these difficult times, specifically her close friends, Shelley, Mona, Maureen, and Kathleen. A memorial service will take place on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home & Cemetery, Hwy #1 East at Navin Road. • Maureen was a neighbour and friend for twenty years while I lived a few doors away on Blostein Bay. We had so many good times... gardening as we called ourselves the "Gardening Angels", we were known to have dug up neighbours' yards from time to time. We shared many daily memories and fun times with our families...Pool parties, walks for our ice caps, new hairdos and just everyday life. We watched our children grow and bloom during those years. Maureen was a joy and will be missed. Doug, Katie and Noah, my heart goes out to you and I will keep you in my prayers. Rest in peace Maureen. - Posted by: Bonny Reitmeier (Neighbor) on: Jan 14, 2015

  • I has truly stunned when reading Saturday's paper to find out about Maureen's passing. I have known Doug for nearly all my life from elementary through high school to our young adult lives and was the best man in my wedding 33 years ago. While we have not always stayed in touch we still consider each other friends. Which made me reflect on days gone by. When Doug met Maureen and she decided to have him in her life he was the happiest man on earth. They completed each other and always had each other's back. Her passing will be difficult for Doug and my prayers go out to him and their children. Please remember to celebrate her life and the impact she had on it. • What beautiful words to describe Maureen. Maureen was my friend, my coworker and my roommate. We met on graduation day in Regina where we had something in common. Our moms were both raised in a small town in southern Manitoba. Little did we know that later that summer we would become coworkers and roommates. True friends are those that never leave your heart, even after years apart, you pick up with them right where you left off, and even when they die they're never dead in your heart. "Unknown" Maureen wanted 3 things in life. She wanted to find a husband, she wanted kids and she wanted to be the best mother and wife. She spent her whole life achieving just that. Maureen had a passion for her flowers, her photography and going to dance, lacrosse and hockey. She felt some emptiness when Kate quit dancing and when Noah was no longer playing hockey and lacrosse. I was very lucky to have spent some quality time with her in the last few months. With all of her pain and suffering she still took the time and energy to comfort me with issues that I was going through. We always thought that we'd look back on our tears and laugh, but we never thought that we'd look back on our laughter and cry. You will be so missed by all. My prayers and thoughts go out to you Doug, Kate, Noah and you too Silas. Maureen was cared for at home by her family. Kate Doug Noah, you truly were her rock. She could not of done it without you. R.I.P we all love you. - Posted by: Mona Fillion Wiebe (Friend coworker roommate ) on: Jan 10, 2015

  • What beautiful words describing our loving sister in law. Such a positive person never once did we hear a bad word directed at anyone or thing! She saw the good in everything! We well fondly remember our trips, adventures and fun that we had with Maureen! Our antics at the lake well always make us laugh! She well be missed in all of our future adventures but we know that her spirit well be with us every step of the way! Love you always. Xo “When someone is in your heart, they're never truly gone. • I meet Maureen and her family through the kids school, and was proud to call her my friend. Her love for her family was amazing and they truly were her passion. Words cannot express the condolences I extend to her family, friends and community. The wedding we attended with Maureen, Doug and friends this summer is the way I will always remember her - happy, shining and full of life. Thank you Maureen for the laughs, and friendship. To Doug,Kate and Noah, your wife/mom was an amazing woman, who loved you all to the moon and back. She shared stories and memories over breakfast and lunches with such pride.
