MARGUERITE ANGELIQUE TONN
Born: Sep 18, 1920
Date of Passing: Jan 08, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGUERITE ANGELIQUE TONN (nee CARRIERE) September 18, 1920 - January 8, 2015 With great sadness and love, the family of Marguerite Tonn announces her passing on the morning of January 8, 2015 at the Health Sciences Centre. Marguerite, affectionately known as "Pup", is predeceased by her parents, Robert and Eugenie Carrière, husband Walter Tonn, brother Edgar Carrière, and her sister Edmee Lambert. She lives on through her children, Greg (Dhiwya), Randy and Jim (Leah) and beloved grandson Jaysheel. She will be missed also by her many nieces, nephews and godchildren who faithfully nurtured strong relationships with her in her later years at Misericordia Personal Care Home. Born in the Metis community of St. Laurent, Manitoba, much of Marguerite's early life revolved around family, the home and the church. Despite moving to Winnipeg in her early 20s, she maintained a strong connection with the town and people of St. Laurent. She shared many stories of growing up through hard times there, and also of the joys of being part of a large family and community where everyone knew each other and supported each other. These early experiences were defining ones. Being together with friends and family, laughter, and a deep sense of caring for the comfort of others remained central in her life. Marguerite worked in Winnipeg at Eaton's department store before meeting and marrying her husband, Walter, in 1956. Much of her life, especially after the death of her husband in 1992, was dedicated to the work of the Catholic Women's League in parishes where she worshipped, especially St. Gerard and Holy Rosary Church. At 94, Marguerite remained interested in life and the people around her. The grace and courage with which she faced illness were an example for all who knew her. She cherished and was cherished by her family. A funeral will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at the Holy Rosary Church on 510 River Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Please join family for a viewing at 10:00 a.m., funeral mass at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception downstairs in the church at 12:00 p.m., as we celebrate a life well lived. In lieu of flowers, give time to be with family in tribute to Marguerite. GREEN ACRES Funeral Home and Cemetery (204) 222-3241 Condolences may be sent to www.greenacresfuneralhome.com

I enjoyed my visits with Pup and Wally and their family when I was younger. We would often just show up and my mom would sit and have tea with her in the afternoons. She was always such a joy to be around. I will miss you Pup! Love Claudine - Posted by: Claudine Milbrandt (Great Aunt) on: Jan 15, 2015

Such a pleasant lady! Our sympathy to Jim & Leah, Greg & his family, & Randy. "The Lefteruks" - Posted by: Ed. & Bella Lefteruk (Friends) on: Jan 13, 2015

What a wonderful woman auntie Marguerite was. Always would greet us with open arms and so very happy when my mom and us kids would go visit the family in the big city of Winnipeg. Just like when Pup with husband Wally and kids Greg, Randy and Jimmy would come visit us in St. Laurent it was always such good times. The memories we have of that are priceless. I didn't know her well... but you didn't have to... to know she was special. Very genuine, warm, caring and humble. The first time we met was in the late 70's and the last time was over 20 years ago... but the memories remain. In the early 90's I was invited over for Christmas brunch as Greg's friend. It was one of the most enjoyable Christmases I have ever experienced. The adult boys & their dad all joking with each other and horsing around... mom in the kitchen whipping up the most delightful breakfast crepes I have ever eaten. An absolutely delightful person that I have often thought of over the years. May she rest in peace. I am very sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Linda MacLean - Kenora, Ontario (Aquaintance over 30 years ago) on: Jan 12, 2015

My thoughts are with the family. Jaysheel, we should all be so lucky to live as long as your grandma did. I know she loved you very much and you made her life much happier. - Posted by: Rod Kozak (Friend of Greg, Dhiwya and Jaysheel) on: Jan 12, 2015
