Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETER VANDENBERG May 27, 1929 - January 13, 2015 Peter Vandenberg, our father, grandfather and great-grandfather, peacefully passed away after a short illness at the age of 85. He will be fondly remembered by his children Rita (Blair) McCorrister, Blandina (Henry) Westervelt, Peter (Esther) Vandenberg and Sylvia (John) Veldman; his grandchildren Heather (Justin), Chris (Kandace), Laura (Daniel), Darryl (Kim), Alisa (James), Benita (Richard), Nathan (Jenette), Louise (David), Colin, Carla (Christian), Gayle, Jessica, Jordan, Steven and Rylan, and his 18 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Teeny, of 49 years, his parents Pieter and Hendrika, his sisters Josiena Vandenberg, Nel Leder; brothers Cor, Leen, and Joost. He is survived by his sisters Ans denOtter and Magda Roos from the Netherlands, Catharina Vandenberg from Toronto and Ria (Bill) Knibbe from Seattle and many nieces and nephews. Peter was born in Schiebroek, the Netherlands. At the age of 19 he was sponsored by Boonstra Farms and immigrated to Canada. Over the years he was able to sponsor three of his sisters and one brother and their families to Canada and helped to make their lives better. Peter worked for over 30 years at Griffin Steel Foundries retiring as a Quality Control Inspector. In retirement he enjoyed travelling with his wife but their favourite pastime would always be camping. In his passion to serve others in encouragement, you would often find him doing this at his favourite Tim Hortons or around a table playing cards. He was always willing to help whoever asked for it. Peter faithfully served his Lord and Saviour and we take comfort knowing he is with Him. He was a devoted and founding member of the Transcona Christian Reformed Church for over 60 years. We would like to thank all the staff of the ICU at Concordia Hospital as well as the ICU at St. Boniface Hospital for their care and kindness throughout his short stay. A celebration of Peter's life will be held on Monday, January 19, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Transcona Christian Reformed Church, 131 Victoria Ave. W., with Pastor Brian Bolkema officiating. Burial will take place at Green Acres prior to the service. www.seasonsfunerals.ca

Every time I saw him in the mall where I work I had an instant smile. He was very kind to me and always said hello and we always had a short conversation about our lives and how our day was going. It definitely helped my day get better. I will definitely miss that. My condolences to the whole family and to all his friends. Matt - Posted by: Matt Kolthof () on: Jan 22, 2015

It just so happens that Pete passed away on what would have been my Dad's 97th birthday. Henceforth I can always celebrate the life of Peter Vandenberg, along with my Dad, on that day. My memories of Peter go back to the fifties. My first interaction with him occurred when I was about ten years old. My folks had bought me my first bicycle, used of course, that persisted in breaking down. My Dad was mechanically challenged so he said, "Take it to Pete Vandenberg." I walked my ride down the path through the willows to Pete's house where he hauled out his tools and cheerfully repaired my bike. When he was done he jokingly said, "That will be five dollars." Undaunted, I raced home, broke into my piggy bank, and counted out the required amount. When I presented him with my life's savings he chuckled and of course would not accept the money I would have gladly given him. That was typical Pete Vandenberg. Over the years Pete did a lot of things for a lot of people, particularly the Dutch immigrants. He became a one man employment agency that never charged for his services. Many sought his advice and valued his opinions. The door was always open. I looked forward to walking over and paying the rent at the end of each month just to chew the fat with him and Tini. They were such nice people. My condolences go out to the family. He will be missed but never forgotten. Thanks for the wonderful memories Pete! - Posted by: Ron Ritsema (Friend) on: Jan 17, 2015

Words can never really express how I feel at the loss of you father. Knowing where he is at right now gives me great comfort, and I know that you feel the same. What a joy to know that he is with his Lord and Savior. I will always cherish the times I had with your mom and dad. They would always make me feel right at home every time I made it back to Winnipeg. Alway s a cup of coffee and some sort of dutch cookie. They always asked abou my family, how my job was going, etc. They both cared on how well I was doing. I know that my mom and dad always apreaciated the Van den Bergs. Your dad looked after their income taxes, and other legal matters, etc., My dad would often run things by your dad first if he didn't understand something. I often bumped into your dad at Timmy's, once at the local second hand shop (he was looking at old books). Everything stopped, half hour later we were all caught up. One day we will all catch up to him and we can continue our talk. Take care my good friends, I will look you up next time I am in Transcona. I was extremely blessed to re-acquaint myself with your father in 2004 / 2005 at the local ice-cream store. He had many fond memories that he shared with me of himself and also my dad and I greatly enjoyed our visit together. My sincere sympathies to his family. Jennine A.
