Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVICTOR SOLYLO November 22, 1928 - January 16, 2015 With great sadness and love, the family of Philip Victor Solylo announces his passing on January 16, 2015 at the age of 86. Left to cherish Victor's memory are his wife Irene, son Jeff (Lois), daughter Donna (Ernie), grandchildren Matthew, Sarah and Adam, brothers-in-law Norman, Leonard (Christina) and Al. Also mourning his loss are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Victor was predeceased by his parents Michael and Ann, sisters Kay and Mary, brothers Bill and Peter, and nephews Bob Battigelli, Bob and Chris Solylo. Victor was born on November 22, 1928. He grew up on Boyd Avenue in the North End of Winnipeg and attended Margaret Scott, Faraday and Isaac Newton Schools. Victor had a wide range of skills and interests. He played junior football for the Winnipeg Light Infantry team for several years as their star center. He enjoyed listening to music, especially big band jazz, and learned how to play the clarinet. He was also interested in drawing and photography. Victor had a knack for repairing almost any mechanical problem. He was always the first to volunteer to help family and friends with any kind of home project. In 1947, Victor started working at the Canadian National Railway as an electrician, and spent his whole career with CN, retiring in 1990 after 43 years of dedicated service. Victor and the love of his life Irene were married on September 7, 1957 at the Blessed Virgin Mary Church. They had two children, Jeff and Donna, and raised their family with much love at their home in East Kildonan. A very devoted father, Victor was always there to lend a hand or lend an ear. During his 25 years of retirement, Victor enjoyed travelling with Irene to Las Vegas, Hawaii and other destinations in the U.S. and Canada. Victor enjoyed bowling in men's leagues with family and friends and in mixed leagues with Irene. Victor also was an avid golfer, playing on many courses with Jeff, family and friends. When Donna and Ernie started their family, it was a dream come true to become grandparents. Victor was a wonderful grandfather to Matthew, Sarah and Adam. The grandchildren meant the world to him and Irene. Many thanks to the staff at Concordia Hospital and Fred Douglas Lodge Personal Care Home. Although Victor was not at each location very long, the staff showed him great kindness and compassion, which our family greatly appreciated. A service celebrating Victor's life will be held on Thursday, January 22 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery, 4477 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Victor's name to the charity of one's choice. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenedenmemorial.ca Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery 204-338-7111

I first met Vic when during my apprenticeship I was fortunate to be his mate at the coach yards in fort rouge. After Vic moved to work in the shops in Transcona I had the pleasure of being his union representative for many years. Vic had a way with him that you always knew where you stood as a friend or foe, fortunately I was considered his friend. My condolences go out to you Irene and your family. Rest well old friend. - Posted by: Boyd kramble (Fellow worker and friend) on: Jan 20, 2015
