Dear Mona, Russ and Kim. I am so very sorry to hear about your Dad. I feel like we all grew up together out at trout lake. We spent so many happy years out there. And your Dad continued his visits to my parents for many years after. My Dad so truly valued his friendship. He was always my best cribbage partner and we won many games against my Mom and Dad. And the fires that he built, the rock is still cracked on the beach. My Dad, Bill and I would have been there for the service but we just found out about his passing. But just know that he was a truly great man and we will all miss him deeply. When my Mom passed, your dad was there for my Dad and was the only person that could him thru that, that was just the kind of person he was. We all loved him so much and all that he was and the greatest friend anyone could ask for. Our thoughts and prayer are with you. Love always. Our deepest condolences on the passing of George. We grew up with all of the Lyons children. Our parents were Ben and Velva Plante, long time friends of George's parents. We used to visit the family when they had a farm in Balmoral, Mb. George was a man that will be truly missed by all who have known him. His work ethics were an inspiration to all who worked beside him, the hardest working man I have ever known. He worked hard when on a job and he played hard in his social life. He made friends easily and valued his friends through good and bad times. Our condolences to his family in the loss of a kind, generous and humorous person who touched so many lives. A truly wonderful man has left this earth and gone to heaven. George was a very dear friend of Charles and Yvette Stossel for many years. They enjoyed many meals together, always followed with a card game & alot of playful teasing. Charlie passed away a few years ago, however Yvette, along with her children, kept in touch with George. It always made for a wonderful surprise when George would show up at mom's door for a visit. We will always remember George as being such a gentleman, so calm, caring and sincere. We are so sad to hear of your loss, however your dad is now resting peacefully. God has him in his keeping and we will always have him in our hearts. Most sincerely, Yvette Stossel & family - Posted by: Chris Carpenter & Dave Henry (friends) on: Jan 21, 2015

This space is not enough to pay tribute to a man I am so grateful to have as part of my life. I met George in 1987. If I could sum up in one sentence "George" Big Red..... He was a true mid century modern model. His beliefs were of a 50's model, you work from sun rise to sunset, and gave a full day's work and you always got what you paid for. And when the job was done, the Irish in him came out, let's party, sing and dance. He knew how to stretch a dollar, and if something still had some value or use he kept it. He was a pillar of strength to the underdog, and went out of his way to help you if you appreciated and deserved his beliefs that nothing in life was for free, and you worked hard for what you had. He never spoke a harsh word to anyone, nor did I ever hear him raise his voice. Nor did he ever complain when his knees were too sore to walk, his shoulder was aching, or even through his final battle with cancer We had many a laugh through the years, I could tease him mercifully, but he always managed to get me back in some way. A song comes to mind that describes George "I did it my way". Rest in Peace my Friend and thanks for the wonderful memories. Till we meet again, I raise a rum and coke to you. - Posted by: Sharon Oger (friend, mentor to me) on: Jan 21, 2015
