ROBERT (BOB) JOHN OWEN It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Bob Owen on January 18, 2015 at the age of 59. Bob will be lovingly missed by his parents Thomas and Sophie, children Brydon (Joy) and Ryan (Michelle), grandchildren Kaden and Zolie, and sisters Barbara and Susan. Bob was born in Winnipeg, MB on October 17, 1955. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1976 from the University of Winnipeg and his Bachelor of Commerce Honours degree in 1978 from the University of Manitoba. He then joined Peat Marwick in 1978, which later became KPMG, and received his Chartered Accountant designation in 1981. One of Bob's greatest professional achievements was becoming an Audit partner with KPMG in 1987. During his 37 years at KPMG, he led many client engagements in both the public and private sectors. He advised clients on accounting, audit, acquisitions, debt/equity offerings, debt restructuring, due diligence and resolution of contractual disputes, among other things. He also served as the Professional Practice Partner in both the Winnipeg office and the Western Canada region. He was always sought out for his expertise in advising on complex account and audit issues and was a great mentor and coach to many members of his team. He will be greatly missed by his associates, clients and friends. In his personal life, Bob was a devoted son, brother, father and grandfather who always went to great lengths to care for his loved ones. Some of his favourite moments were spent at the lake fishing and boating with his sons, swimming and playing with his grandson Kaden, and cuddling his infant granddaughter Zolie. Bob also enjoyed many years of curling, golfing, family vacations, Sunday afternoons watching the Minnesota Vikings and Hockey Nights in Canada with the Montreal Canadians. He was generous beyond words, giving to many charities and always ready to help a friend or family member in need as best he could. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at The Holy Redeemer Church, 264 Donwood Drive, with Brother Joseph Lourdusamy officiating. A reception and time of sharing will follow the service at 4pm at Niakwa Country Club, 620 Niakwa Road. A private family interment will take place at a later date at the Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Flowers are gratefully declined. If so desired, donations may be made in Bob's memory to The United Way, Humane Society, or another suitable charity of your choosing. - O, Give thanks unto the Lord; For He is good: for His mercy endureth forever. Bob was my best friend as a young boy. We went to elementary school together. We would sometimes build snow forts in the yard, talk about every subject under the sun, walk to Polo Park to have fun in the shopping center, go to movies, read comics, ride our bicycles together. It's hard for me to think of a time when he was not there. We both played in the same baseball league, although he was on a different team than me. We'd also go skating together, although I'm can't remember now if he played hockey. And in Grade 6, I remember him being the most ambitious student in the entire school, so he taught me about the value of hard work. i remember the wonderful relationship that he had with his Dad, the best that I had ever seen. He was a good kid, and I expect a good man, and full of compassion. - Posted by: Garry Burgess (childhood friend) on: Feb 17, 2021

So very sorry to hear such news. I knew Bob for over 30 years. He was a dear client for years at the restaurant. Always well mannered and dressed professionally. So calm and polite. Such a gentleman! Bob, I always admired your ways and also your charming smile. You were always special to us. We are so surprised and taken aback on your early departure. Life seems so unfair sometimes. Our sincere condolences to your boys and the entire family. Our prayers are with you and them. May your soul rest in peace. God bless. We will miss you. My condolences to Mr. Owen's family. I only knew Bob through the pharmacy where I used to work, but just from the few times I dealt with him, I know he was a very pleasant person, a really nice man. Rest in peace Mr. Owen. - Posted by: Bradley Pisiak (acquaintance) on: Jan 26, 2015

I worked under Bob's direction at KPMG for 10 years, and learned so many things about the profession and about business, but more importantly about how to conduct oneself as a professional. Bob was an extremely hard worker, and never asked his staff to do any more than he was prepared to do himself. He was generous with his time and was a great mentor, and played a major part in the launch of the careers of many CAs. My sincere condolences to Bob's family, he will be missed. - Posted by: Wayne Demkey (Friend) on: Jan 25, 2015

Dear Owen family, I am so very sad to hear of Bob's passing. I am out of the country and will not have the opportunity to pay my respects in person. Bob and I practically spent the entire decade of the 70's together. At SJCI, U of W and then U of M. We studied together for the UFE, played golf together, occasionally got drunk together, (we were kids) spent time together in the summers with our girl friends and stood up for each other at our weddings. When I missed the deadline for writing the LSAT Bob talked me into trying out this Chartered Accounting thing. Turns out we were both pretty good at it. I know he was well respected in the CA community as for a time Bob was my nephew's (Wayne Demkey) boss, so I heard lots of good things about him. Somehow life got in the way for us, I moved to Alberta, Bob got divorced, and we lost touch. I will always feel bad about that. The last few times we talked he went on about his boys and how proud he was of them. They won't remember me but they should know that he impacted many lives outside his family as well and I was proud to call him my best friend. My prayers are with his family . - Posted by: Craig Martin (Friend) on: Jan 25, 2015

I am deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Bobby. As children there were many family gatherings at Baba's or on the farm. It does not seem that long ago we were playing outside while the grown-ups talked. The years pass by so quickly. Auntie Sophie, Uncle Tommy, Barbara, Susan, Brydon, Ryan and your families, I am so sorry for your loss. Please accept my most heartfelt condolences. May Bob rest in peace. - Posted by: Catherine Ferchoff (Cousin) on: Jan 24, 2015

I started at Peat Marwick in 1975 and worked along side Bob for almost 6 years. Bob was a very dedicated hard working employee. We curled together for probably 10 years until 1990 when we moved to the US. My condolences to Brydon and Ryan and Bob's whole family. He will definitely be missed by all of you and obviously way too early. Take care as only time will help to heal your pain! - Posted by: Gordon Fisher (Colleague, friend, curling teammate) on: Jan 24, 2015

For a number of years, I saw Mr. Owen on a weekly basis when he came into the dry cleaners where I worked. He was always very pleasant and always took the time to chat for a minute. He would just beam whenever he spoke of being a grandpa. Rest in peace Mr. Owen. - Posted by: Marilyn () on: Jan 24, 2015
