ELAINE LORNA FLORENCE ZABER 1936 - 2015 Mom died suddenly on January 23, 2015 at Gimli Betel. She is survived by her son Tom (Sharon), daughters Brenda Irish (Ken), Myrna Willenbucher (Arnie), Valerie Squires as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Elaine is also survived by sisters Helen Bays (Art) and Ethel Jackson(Vern) and numerous nieces and nephews. Elaine was predeceased by her husband Harry in April 2007. Elaine was born on May 1, 1936 in Winnipeg the youngest daughter of Ora and Vida Wilson. She married Harry in 1956 with them moving around for a few years before settling in the Teulon area. Over the years she worked in a variety of hotel kitchens, drove the cream truck for Teulon Creamery and couriered for Alpine Messenger. Her pastimes were reading books and the daily newspaper, writing poetry and doing crosswords/word search puzzles. She had one self-published book of poetry. Elaine was particularly proud a few years ago when the staff at Betel Home submitted her poem in a contest and it was chosen for publishing in a book of poetry. She enjoyed music, particularly singing at church, as her faith was important to her. Some of her favourite times were spent having coffee, telling a joke and enjoying a good laugh at Bill & Bea's. Even as her dementia progressed, she could come out with a most appropriate "one liner". Thank you to the Gimli Betel staff for their care of the last five and one half years. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel in Teulon with coffee to follow and then interment at Pleasant Home Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9. MACKENZIE FUNERAL HOME TEULON (204)-467-2525 mackhome@mts.net

  • to Elaine's family. I had the pleasure of getting to know your mom at Betel. I loved her laugh and her one liners. She would agree to proudly share her amazing poetry in the Chapel service and in the homemakers program at Betel Her gift was an incredible window to open the world of memories to many friends that suffered from dementia and alzheimers. Her gifts will be treasured by me always. I am truly blessed to have known her. May your memories help you today and always. Kim Ward. - Posted by: Kim ward (friend) on: Jan 28, 2015
