JEANNETTE CHARTRAND (nee COUTU) It is with great sadness that the family of Jeannette Chartrand announces her unexpected passing at home on Sunday, January 25, 2015. She will be sadly missed by her four sons and their families: Richard and Sandy (David and Michelle, Stephanie, Jarrod and Isering), Randy and Colleen (Dana and Heather, Renn), Robert and Yvonne (Adam, Madeleine), Rodney and Danita (Evan); and five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Emily, Danika, Deah and Charley. Also mourning her loss is her sister Isabelle (Harvey), sisters-in-law Gladys, Celia, Edith (Don), Diane (Ken), brothers-in-law Robert (Pauline), Johnny, Ron (Paulette), their families, and numerous relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Antoinette and David Coutu, sisters Florence and Emilia, brother Denis, mother and father-in-law Leon and Eva Chartrand, and brothers and sisters-in-law Etienne, Wilfred, Denis, Paul, Stella, Therese, Mabel and Denise. Jeannette was born on January 3, 1940 in St. Laurent, MB. After leaving school, she and Clem were married in 1957. During the Christmas rush she worked at Eaton's Mail Order and when all the boys were in school worked at Travelodge and then for the Oblate Fathers. Upon Clem's retirement, they returned to St. Laurent where they enjoyed travelling and spending time with family and friends. Life took a devastating turn when Clem died in 2006, one year short of their 50th wedding anniversary. The next several years were very difficult for her and filled with sadness. She cherished spending time with friends and her family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the summers with Isabelle and Harvey living next door. Over the years, she became more involved with the church community and enjoyed going to mass almost every day. This past fall she decided to move to Winnipeg and was thrilled with her new apartment: after a long time she once again had a sparkle in her eye and laughter in her heart. Her family and friends are saddened by her sudden passing and will miss her dearly. Pallbearers are Richard, Randy, Robert, Rodney, Kerry and Ken. Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Viewing will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. followed by Prayers at 10:30 a.m. and Mass at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Laurent Roman Catholic Church, St. Laurent, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jeannette's memory to the St. Laurent Church "Roof Replacement Fund," Lot 119 Parish Lane, St. Laurent, MB R0C 2S0. • I am deeply saddened by the loss of your mother and sending condolences to my cousins, Rick, Randy, Rob, Rodney and their families. Aunty Jeanette will always hold a special place in our hearts. She showed great love for her boys and their families. I will always treasure the memories and laughter I shared with your mom. We both enjoyed the stories I would share with her...and I can still hear her laughter. I will miss her encouraging words she gave to me when I was upset or overwhelmed. I know she is safe in the arms of the Lord, and embracing her beloved husband, Clem. Warm hugs...R.I.P Aunty xoxoxo - Posted by: Penny Fleming (Niece) on: Jan 29, 2015

  • Jeanette's passing, sudden and unexpected following her move into the city and a time to find once again that "glitter" in her eye is definitly a great sadness for her family and all her loved ones! Our heartfelt sympathies as we do understand the passing of a mother is a "grand moment de tristesse dans la vie"! Although I lived too far away to spend time with Jeanette... I have witnessed as far back as 40 years what a wonderful tender mother Jeanette was through the kind, gentle and funloving spirits of her sons... Richard, my highschool classmate and Rodney following soon after and then Rob, my sister Yvonne's classmate, and now husband and Rodney the young one! Behind all of those young men was obviously a special woman. Bruno and our children, cousins for Adam and Madeleine, Inès, Paul and Alexis send our sincere condolences and compassion at this time of loss.
