WILLIAM (BILL) PETERS 1932-2015 Bill passed away peacefully on January 24, 2015, just short of his 83rd birthday. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Irene, and their children Bonnie (Doug) Jerlo, Bill (Roula) Peters, Bob (Karen) Peters, Denise (Scott) Patterson, Diane (Harold) Funk, as well as 11 grandchildren and one great-grandson. Bill was born January 28, 1932 to James and Aganetha Peters, the eighth of 11 children. At 19 he left home to work for CN Telegraphs, then Ft. William Hydro, which led to his lineman position at Winnipeg Hydro where he worked for 23 years. Bill married Irene Robb on September 8, 1956, moving from Riviera Crescent in Ft. Garry to St. Vital in 1960 where they raised their five children. After retiring from Hydro, Bill had a successful career in life insurance. He was also successful in real estate investment and ran a tree trimming business -all to provide a better life for his family. He became even busier in retirement, maintaining a family cottage, helping anyone who needed a truck, tools, tree trimming, or a listening ear. He loved to hunt, fish, and participated in the Manitoba Metropolitan Car Club. He was active in the Manitoba Liberal Party, served on the advisory board for MP Ron Duhamel, and was appointed a director of the Crown Assets Disposal Corporation. He loved garage sales as an excuse to chat and buy things for his children or friends. He was active in the church as a Sunday school teacher, boy's club leader, trustee and committee member. Following a severe stroke in 2007, Bill went into personal care; first at Riverview, then Vista Park Lodge and River Park Gardens, where he lived until his passing. Heartfelt thanks to all who attended to his care. Visits from his friends were especially appreciated! A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, February 2, 11:00 a.m., at Bethel Mennonite Church, 465 Stafford, with viewing starting at 10:00 a.m.; interment to follow at Green Acres, No.1 Highway East at Navin Road. Children were especially important to Bill. In his memory, please consider a donation to the Bethel Mennonite Church, Youth Ministry. You were a powerful and positive influence in many lives, Dad. You were loved, and you will be greatly missed! GREEN ACRES Funeral Home and Cemetery (204) 222-3241 Condolences may be sent to www.greenacresfuneralhome.com

  • My sincere condolences to Irene and the family. I have long admired Bill for his great kindness to me when I had hurt myself with a chainsaw and he appeared a day or two later, at my door on Riel Ave., with saw in hand to cut up the remainder of the large tree that I had to abandon due to my injury. Bill did not know what had happened but He said that as he drove past my house after attending church, he was drawn to come and to see if he could help. He was a godsend to me. Thank you once again Bill. I wish Irene, Bonnie, Bill, Bob, Denise and Diane that the positive memories of your husband and father will sustain you through this time of sorrow and that in time they will serve to comfort you and enrich your lives. - Posted by: Ron Guarino (Neighbour) on: Jan 31, 2015
