FREDRICK (FRED) ALBERT HILL February 28, 1925 - January 30, 2015 It is with heavy, yet joyful hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Fred at the age of 89, on January 30 to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. He is lovingly remembered by his beloved wife Marion of 62 years, his children Cathy (Jack), George (Carol), James (Leanne), Susanne, and David (Rachel). Left to mourn are his sisters Grace, Ruth, and Helen, and grandchildren, Timothy, Andrew, Rebecca, Ian, Danielle, Emily, Laura, Michelle and Mark, who have fondest memories of their grandpa. Fred was predeceased by his parents George and Lillian, infant son Robert, sisters Margaret and Hazel, and brother George. Fred was born in his family home on Furby Street in Winnipeg. He graduated from Daniel Mac Collegiate, then he enlisted in the Canadian Army and was sent overseas. Upon returning from the Second World War, Fred worked in the oil industry, then the airline industry, and then settled in for his career with CN Rail where he was Freight Pricing Manager until his retirement at age 61. Fred enjoyed 28 years of a full and healthy retirement. Fred was married to Marion in 1952 and together they were blessed with five children. As a family man Fred enjoyed many sports, numerous trips, and wonderful times at Brereton Lake. Jesus Christ was the foundation of Fred's life and he remained steadfast in his faith throughout his years. He put his faith into action by serving the Lord in numerous children's ministries, and especially with the under-privileged. Fred and Marion's home has always been open to meet the needs of others. The family wants to thanks the staff of Grace Hospital and Deer Lodge Centre for providing higher than expected care of our dearly loved Freddie. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, February 3, at 10:30 a.m. with viewing from 9:30 a.m., at Thomson Funeral Chapel, Broadway Ave. at Furby St. If people so desire, a donation can be made in Fred's memory to the Living Bible Explorers' children's ministry, 600 Burnell St. Winnipeg, MB R3G 2B7. Condolences & Memories (12 entries)

  • Dear Auntie Marion and all our second and third cousins, we have been thinking of you so much lately. We regret being unable to come to Winnipeg for Uncle Fred's funeral. He was a bright light, a pillar in the family and in his generation. There are not many men like him. His faith, his laughter and his generosity impressed us deeply. When we lived in Winnipeg, he was always showing his love for us by stopping by with groceries, or taking us out for a drive to Tim Hortons or for gelato. May you be comforted in knowing he is with the LORD and is pain-free, once again. Much love, Elizabeth and Robert Lumkes - Posted by: Elizabeth Lumkes (Niece) on: Feb 16, 2015
