BARBARA MARY TURNER (nee LOW) June 17, 1921 - January 30, 2015 We are saddened to announce that Barb Turner passed away peacefully at River East Personal Care Home, Winnipeg, at the age of 93. Daughter to Bill and Mary Low, born at Sinclair, MB and raised on a farm near Reston MB along with her eight brothers and sisters. Life was filled with chores, school, fun and more chores. Barb moved to Pipestone in her teens to work in housekeeping and a few years later moved to Neepawa where she found work at the hardware store. In 1949 Barb joined Second World War veteran, Herb Turner of Wellwood in a wonderful marriage that would thrive for 46 years. The couple first settled in Neepawa then moved to the Airport Road, Kenora in 1956 where Herb completed a 35 year career in airport maintenance with the Ministry of Transport. This was followed by a move to Greene Avenue, Winnipeg in 1990. In late 2008 Barb moved to the Irene Baron Eden Centre, and then a year later took up residence in the River East Personal Care Home until her passing. Barb was predeceased by her husband Herb in 1995; her infant daughter, Donna Jean; her brothers Bill of Virden, Harold and Reg of Reston, and Tom of Vancouver; her sisters Evelyn Wright of Pipestone, Helen Kerslake of Souris, and her infant sister Gertrude of Reston. Barb will be fondly remembered by her daughter Karen Laliberte with husband Denis and daughter Shannon of Winnipeg; her daughter Sandy Kaus with husband Bruce and their three children Amy, Braydon and Lauren of Thunder Bay, ON; her sister Connie Ellis of Reston; her brother-in-law Alex Turner of Carberry, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Barb was a wonderful homemaker and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved cooking, baking, gardening, and spending time with her family. She and Herb enjoyed their cottage on Lake of the Woods where they hosted guests from out of town and made many new friends. Barb was a gentle, soft-spoken lady who always had a kind word to say. Hard work like digging the garden and cutting the grass was her therapy. She loved to laugh and was a joy to be around. She will be sadly missed. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, R3K 1W3 on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 2:00 p.m., with a reception following. Interment of ashes to take place at a later date. We wish to thank the staff at River East Personal Care Home for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, please consider a charity of your choice. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Auntie Barb, we will miss you a lot. I look back on your visits to the Coast to see Dad with a smile. The laughter was always warm and abundant. I am thinking of one time you, Dad and I think Helen were coming back in the car which came to a lurching stop in the driveway. At that point you, Helen and Dad collapsed on each other in the front seat laughing at some story you were telling of your childhood. Thinking of all of your today.
