NETA (FUNK) FRIESEN July 26, 1918 - February 1, 2015 Neta Friesen (nee Funk), passed away peacefully on February 1, 2015 at the Altona Hospital at the age of 96 and a half years old. Neta was born on July 26, 1918 to Anton A. and Maria (Friesen) Funk on the family farm in the Roseville School District south of Rosenfeld, Manitoba. She moved to Altona, Manitoba at the age of 10 years with her parents, her sister Anna, and her brother John. Neta attended school, first in the Roseville School District, then elementary and high school at Altona, Manitoba. She also took a Home Economics course at The Rhineland Agricultural Institute. In 1939, upon the confession of her faith, Neta was baptized by Bishop David Schulz and accepted as a member of the Altona Bergthaler Mennonite Church of which she was a member for 75 years. On April 28, 1940, Neta was married to David G. Friesen, son of Abram D. and Anna (Gerbrandt) Friesen. They were blessed with four children: Margaret Elaine, David Vernon, JoAnne Kathryn, and Norma Ruth. They were married nearly 64 years. Her first priority was always the health and well-being of her family. Neta was predeceased by her husband, David G. Friesen (2004), first born child, Margaret Elaine, aged three (1945), her parents, six brothers, and nine sisters. Neta Friesen is survived by her son Vernon, daughter JoAnne (Brian) Born, daughter Norma (David) Neudorf, six grandchildren: Robyn (Michel) Pryce, Jason (Nancy) Born, Cameron Born, Andrew (Mishelle) Born, Jonathan and Kristofer Neudorf, great-grandchild Matthew Pryce. Also surviving Neta are her sisters-in-law, Laura Friesen and Anne Kroeker as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Altona Bergthaler Mennonite Church on Thursday February 5, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Rick Neufeld and Virginia Gerbrandt Richert officiating. Viewing will be held Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at Wiebe's Funeral Home Altona from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and also at the church prior to the service.
