Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I worked many many trips with Clarence on the Minnedosa Branch Pool in the 70's and 80's. He was quite a character and popular with us younger brakemen of the time. Clarence was always impatient and liked to get over the road. When we left Winnipeg on train 561 he invariably made it right on the running time which in those days was 2hrs and 35min. I ran into him at a big retirement party in Transcona after they pulled the Via trains off in 1990 by which time I was a setup hogger myself. He asked me how I enjoyed running an engine so I pulled a CP form out of my pocket informing me that I had been assessed 10 demerits for dumping 2 hopper cars upside down on the Bredenbury Sub which he read and laughed and laughed. That was life on the railroad with Clarence, clear signals old buddy. - Posted by: Brion Pollon (fellow railroader) on: Feb 08, 2015

  • My grandpa was a train engineer for many years and as a young man he would sneak me on the trains, if he was caught he would have been in a lot of trouble. These memories of riding the main line to Minnedosa and spending time with him came flooding back to me today when as part of my job I had to go to the CP rail yard that my grandpa worked out of. These memories can never be taken from me and I am so grateful to my grandpa for sharing this with me. I will keep these memories forever, thank you Grandpa Penno. - Posted by: Mervin Scott (grandson) on: Feb 06, 2015

  • I worked many trips with Clarence on the P.V. Extra and we had a great time together. You will be missed old friend. - Posted by: Charlie Brow (Friend) on: Feb 06, 2015
