Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVICTOR STEWART (STEW) BUCKLER November 22, 1922 January 28, 2015 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Stew on January 28, 2015 at the age of 92. Always a man to write things down, the following are his own words with a few revisions and additions. Stew was a loving husand, father, pa, great-grandfather and uncle. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Peters (Pat), Rilla (Lorne), Candy (Kent), grandchildren Theresa (Kerry), Melissa (Peter), Reece, Megan, great-granddaughter Tessa, his sister Irene, nieces and nephews along with a host of friends. Stew was predeceased by Ruby his loving wife, of 61 years, his parents Caroline and Sydney, sister-in-law Phyllis and brother-in-law Norm. Born and raised in Winnipeg, he graduated from Gordon Bell High School and obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Manitoba in 1945. After a short time in the army Stew commenced a 46 year career as a professional engineer, proudly becoming the first electrical engineer to work for the City of Winnipeg's Electrical Inspection Department. In 1952 he joined the architectural firm of Green, Blankstein, Russell and Associates as head of their electrical design department. He held this position for 14 years. He then partnered in M.B. Consultants for two years before joining The Province of Manitoba Department of Public Works. In 1983 at the time of his departure he held the position of Chief Engineer. Stew continued to work as a manufacturers representative under his company name Energy Management Consultants, until he officially retired in November 1991 on his 69th birthday. In 1953 he and Ruby built their cabin at Twin Lakes Beach. This would be the centre of many gatherings of family and friends. Hours were spent hunting, fishing, boating and playing cards. Stew was an enthusiastic sportsman. His school activities included soccer, hockey, and tennis. In 1944 he found his passion in the game of tenpin bowling. He was still enjoying this sport some 50 years later. In 1988 he was inducted into The Bowling Hall of Fame. Stew belonged to many professional and recreational associations throughout his life. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and The Royal Canadian Legion for over 50 years. Stew's philosophy of life is best expressed in one of his favourite poems: The clock of life is wound but once And no man has the power To tell just when the hands will stop At late or early hour. Now is the only time you own Live, love, toil with a will Place no faith in "tomorrow" for The clock may then be still. Dad was our rock and his memory will be forever in our hearts. The family would like to thank, Dr. Ray Singer and Rose for their many years of excellent medical care, the staff at The Boulton for their support and all the staff at Deer Lodge Centre, especially Lodge 7W for their dedicated attention and kindness. At Dad's request cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life is to take place sometime this summer and will be announced at a later date. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Canadian Diabetes Association, 200-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6. As Dad always saidAnd so it goes.
