FLORENCE MARIE-ANGE MCMULLEN (GENDREAU) September 2, 1922 - February 5, 2015 With love and great sadness, the family announces the passing of our dear mom, memère, and grand-mère. Florence passed peacefully at Action Marguerite, River Road on February 5, 2015 at the age of 92. Florence was born in Pontiex, Saskatchewan and was the first and only girl of six children. She was predeceased by her parents Alice and Arthur, and her five brothers Hector, Marcel, Leo, Paul and Henry, as well as her cherished husband Arthur McMullen (1968), and loving daughter Cheryl (1965). Life on the family farm during the Depression taught her the value of hard work, strong family ties and helping others. All that was mixed with a lot of loving and teasing from her brothers who felt it was their mission to keep her on her toes. She was an excellent student who, from an early age, wanted to be a teacher. Following graduation from high school, Florence moved to Winnipeg where she graduated from Normal School in 1944. Her passion for teaching led to a life-long career that lasted into her 70s. While teaching in rural Manitoba she met and married the love of her life Arthur McMullen in 1952. They were blessed with five children. Her strong sense of family and capacity for love are legacies she has passed on to her children: Alice (Myron), Maureen (Ali), Edward (Janna), Roy, Cheryl who has passed, as well as Carol and Alex. Also, Florence leaves 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Mom had an incredibly strong character which allowed her to raise her children, acquire two university degrees in her late 40s, all while teaching full time. She would say that her greatest accomplishment was that of being a mother. And that her greatest gift was that of faith and that faith sustained her and her family through life. We were blessed to journey together to the end. The family would like to say a special thank you to all the staff at Action Marguerite who were so very good to Mom. Your friendship, compassion and care made her feel very special. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, February 11 at 7:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery, Highway #1 East at Navin Road. The Funeral Service Mass will be held at Mary Mother of the Church Parish, 85 Kirkbridge Drive, Winnipeg, Manitoba, on February 12 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Green Acres Cemetery with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. GREEN ACRES Funeral Home and Cemetery (204) 222-3241 Condolences may be sent to www.greenacresfuneralhome.com

  • So sorry I was away when this happened. I will treasure my memories of your Mom. Loyal, caring, fun-loving and smart - she was an inspiration to us all! - Posted by: Karen Convery (Friend) on: Feb 18, 2015

• Dear Alice & Myron. Our deepest sympathy in the loss of your beloved mother. We have experienced the pain and sorrow that the loss of a parent impacts. Your grieving time will eventually give you comfort as you bring back to mind all the wonderful experiences you enjoyed when Mom was with you. We both knew your mother as a very strong person who had strong goals and values in life and we know that these she left as a legacy to you. Hang on to these special attributes. She is now at peace in the Kingdom of God. May God bless you and your family. With Love Bill & Pat - Posted by: Bill & Pat KotelkoDear () on: Feb 09, 2015
