GEORGE MATEYCHUK George Mateychuk, 70, of Zhoda, Manitoba, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on February 9, 2015 at Bethesda Hospital, Steinbach, Manitoba. Mourning his loss are Marilyn, his beloved wife of 48 years, sons: Jonathan Ross (Leah) and Jason (Keela), his precious grandchildren: Jesse, Jody, Avery, Maddux, Denton, Kasen, Crosby and Brylee; his brothers: Bill (Darlene), Jarvis, Dennis (Betty), and Jim (Barbara); sister-in-law Emily (Rene), aunt Pauline Michalchuk, and his nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his brother Peter, parents Bill and Elsie, and his grandparents. George always lived in the Zhoda area, where he dedicated his energy to grain and cattle farming and developing a construction and gravel business. He loved to spend time grading roads, clearing land and riding around in his truck or quad checking up on things. He loved to tease Marilyn about her mushroom picking skills. He was a great father, always encouraging his sons and praising them for their career choices and community involvement. He always supported them and was proud of their accomplishments in all of their endeavours. In later years, George enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed attending their sports and school activities or sharing funny stories from the past and present. George was known for his athleticism and enjoyed talking about his time playing ball with ZVC Dodgers, Vita Mallards and hockey with the Vita Old-Timers. He was also known for his great sense of humour and always enjoyed laughter with family and friends, followed by his trademark "wink". Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, Manitoba, with viewing at the chapel prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Zhoda Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Zhoda Community Hall (Box 28, Zhoda, MB R0A 2P0) or the Vita Arena (229 Main St. N, Vita, MB R0A 2K0).
