Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWALTER RUSSELL NIELSON February 19, 1924 - February 7, 2015 It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Predeceased by his parents Matt and Norene Nielson; his brothers Louis, Ernest, Kenneth, Edward and Raymond; his granddaughter Sarah, and great-granddaughter Hannah. Walt is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Rosalyn; his brother Bill; his adoring children Warren (Erica), Joanne (Glenn), and Carol (Michael); his six grandchildren Matt (Jocelyn), Daniel (Lana), Joseph (Ally), Geoffrey, Kenneth, and Nicholas, and his great-granddaughters Charlotte and Mara. He will also be fondly remembered by his extended family and many friends. Walt was born in the small, rural community of Craik, Saskatchewan. After a boyhood on the family farm, he left in 1942 to fight with the Sherbrooke Fusilier Regiment during the Second World War. Following the war, Walt attended the University of Saskatchewan and then began his career as an education officer in the R.C.A.F. He retired as a Major in 1979. Walt enjoyed his lengthy retirement working with his brother Bill, golfing, curling, and travelling abroad. Walt especially loved spending his summers at the lake with his children and grandchildren. Walt will be warmly remembered for his selfless devotion to family, his depth of character, his generosity, wit, and sense of humour. He touched many lives and left his indelible mark in many places. Our family would like express our deep appreciation to Kristen and all of the staff of Golden West Centennial Lodge for their kind and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Golden West. A private funeral has taken place. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 204-885-9715

Sincere condolences to all. Walt was a quiet unassuming uncle & brother. He had a quick sense of humour and our Dad could spend hours talking with him about the crops, horses and the like. Forever in our thoughts. GTMIRM - Posted by: William Nielson Family (Brother/cousins) on: Feb 14, 2015
