Condolences & Memories (11 entries)

  • I was so sad to hear of Shorty's passing. Shorty and Helen's home was always full of fun and laughter, and Shorty could always be seen grinning and sharing a good laugh. Anyone who came into his home was always made so welcomed and special. Wonderful memories! My sympathies go out to you all and I'm so sorry I wasn't able to be at the funeral. Take care. - Posted by: Robert Livingston (Friend of the family) on: Feb 19, 2015

  • I never had the privilege of meeting Tony's father but through the experiences of my daughter Danielle (Tony's wife) I garnered a warmth for the man he was. To Tony and his family please accept my sincerest condolences. God Bless each of you as you remember and celebrate this obviously well regarded and respected man. - Posted by: James Beu (Father of Tony"s wife, Danielle.) on: Feb 17, 2015

  • Your family was my family growing up Debbie. Your dad was always such a happy person always agreeing to drive or pick up from whatever event we were involved in. You will all miss him so much. My symapthy to all - Erin - Posted by: Erin Fitzgerald (Clifford) (Long ago friend) on: Feb 17, 2015

  • I always loved to go to Winnipeg and especially Starbuck to see all my Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Enjoyed every minute I was there. I remember staying at Aunt Helen's and Uncle Shorty's and driving Chucky's go cart the whole day. What fond memories!! Thinking of you Aunt Helen and all your family, Jody. - Posted by: Jody (Dupuis) Levesque (Niece) on: Feb 17, 2015

  • When ten years ago Alvin and Helen were visiting Tony in his then on-campus residence, we would frequently visit them. The first thing that we noticed when entering the residence was Alvin’s smile that would light up the room so that we could truly sense the warmth of his welcome. And that is what thereafter we would always relate to Alvin – his unique capacity to project onto others the warmth of his humanity. • Shorty and I had adjoining land. He was a good neighbor and I always enjoyed talking to him. He had a great way of looking at things. My memories of Shorty will always be good ones! Brad Rasmussen - Posted by: Bradley Rasmussen (Neighbour) on: Feb 16, 2015

  • I'll always remember my summer on the farm. I got to meet all my mom's family. I was only 11 years old that year and we went out west on a Train from Sudbury, Ontario. We stayed at Gramma and Grampa's house while we were there and Uncle Shorty and Uncle Spike were our heros. I remember the doll house that Uncle Shorty had built for my cousin Debbie at his farm and thought that was so great. While we were in Starbuck that summer they had a Ammeter day Celebration. I'll always remember that special summer in Starbuck and I'll always have great memories of my Uncle Shorty...Thinking of you Aunt Helen, and your family... • I will always remember seeing Alvin (Shorty) first thing in the morning on his way to the farm as I was going the opposite way to work. Once a farmer, always a farmer! In later years I would occasionally see Helen and him at the St Vital Mall where we would have a great visit and catch up on the activities of their children and grandchildren. And he always wanted to know what was going on with Edward and the farm! Debbie, Charles and Tony, you were blessed to have such a devoted and gentle father. Our sympathy to Helen and your families.
