Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNA HELEN LINDAL March 24, 1917 February 2, 2015 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Anna Helen Lindal, age 97 years of Arborg in the early morning hours of February 2, 2015. Anna will be lovingly remembered by daughters and sons-in-law Olive and Gestur Jacobson, Rosemary Lindal, Linda and Jim Wilkie and son-in-law Phillip Litchfield; grandchildren Birdeen and Carl Selzer, Blair and Carmen Jacobson, Jared, Rylan and Raegan Wilkie; and great grandsons Braeden and Josh Jacobson. Her sister-in-law Emily Lindal; numerous nieces, nephews, Stansell cousins and cherished friends Clara Smith, Sylvia and Ken Mason. Anna was predeceased by her beloved husband Oli and daughter Joyce Litchfield; her parents Joseph and Minnie Stansell; parents-in-law Jacob and Thorunn Lindal; brothers-in-law John (Ruth, her cousin); Johann; Joseph (Emily); Siggi; and sister-in-law Loa (Roy). Anna was born March 24, 1917 in Brandon. When four months old, she became the chosen daughter of Joseph and Minnie Stansell and went to live on the homestead in Sharpwood. When she was nine years old they moved to Vidir where she grew up. She attended Morweena School and Arborg became her town; she watched it grow and was proud of it. Being an only child, Anna grew up alone and her dog and cats were her constant companions. She loved animals, especially horses, riding horseback wherever she went and driving teams of horses when doing field work on the farm When she was seventeen, her father bought a car and she had to learn to drive it. Always having been frightened of anything with a motor, this was no easy task. She preferred a wild horse any day. Anna enjoyed belonging to the Vidir Dorcas Society for a few years and attended a homemaking course in Arborg in 1937. On September 30, 1941, Anna married Oli Lindal of Sylvan. Anna and Oli shared more than sixty-three years of love and happiness. They succeeded in their dream to give their children a good education and to have an early retirement from the farm. They farmed in Vidir for twenty-one years where their four daughters grew up. Anna taught Sunday school and gave all her support to her daughters when they were in the 4-H Sewing and Garden Clubs. She loved to sew for her girls and continued to sew some of her own clothes until she was in her eighties. Anna's kitchen was her domain. She loved cooking and baking. Her hobbies were knitting and reading. She was an avid reader all her life and took special care of her books. Anna and Oli moved to Arborg in 1963. Having only Grade 8, Anna attended vocational training school and received Grade 10 plus Clerk Typist Certificate. She then wrote the GED exam attaining the Grade 12 Certificate. The first few years in town, Anna taught bible school and was a member of the Lutheran Church Women and Meals on Wheels. Later, she worked part time for the Lake Centre News and Dueck Fabrics. She numerated at elections, was census representative in town and Secretary for the Arborg Agricultural Society for a few years. Anna was a member of, and news reporter for, the Arborg Senior Citizens Club for many years. In the summer of 2006, Anna relocated from her much loved home, where she had lived happily for 43 years, to the Assisted Living Centre located in town. In March of 2014, she moved into the Personal Care Home. Anna's family is grateful for the care that she received from many compassionate individuals who work with Home Care, the Assisted Living Centre, Arborg Medical Clinic and most recently Personal Care Home. A private family interment will take place at the Vidir Cemetery. A celebration of Anna's life will take place at Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church in Arborg on February 21, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Anna's memory to Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church, Box 160, Arborg, MB, R0C 0A0 or to a charity of one's choice. MacKenzie Funeral Home in care of arrangements.

Anna was my friend Linda's mother, and I spent many happy hours at their house in Arborg. These are some things I remember: having coffee with the family in their kitchen and eating her wonderful baking; driving to dances in Vidir with Linda and her parents and singing "Good Night Irene", Oli's favorite song, in the back seat; sitting at church services in the old Ardal Lutheran Church with Linda and her parents. Anna was a wonderful person, positive and fun loving, curious and bright, hard working, outgoing and affectionate. She was a role model for me. My condolences to the girls and their families. - Posted by: Donna [Wopnford] Oberrieth (Arborg friend and neighbor) on: Feb 19, 2015

My most treasured memories of Anna, was visiting her and Oli in their Arborg home, with my mom and dad (Otto and Ann Stansell). I will never forget her desserts. She always had a dessert(s) to be enjoyed with coffee or milk (well I started with milk and graduated to coffee) The visits around the kitchen table is something I remember to this day. In later years, Oli and I would enjoy a game or two of crib. Such warm memories that will remain in my heart forever. - Posted by: Gladys Cassidy (family) on: Feb 19, 2015

Hey Grandma. I hope this weekend will be a celebration because living to almost 98 years old as gracefully as you did is amazing. Say hi to Grandpa and Aunty Joyce. I will see you all again. Blair - Posted by: Blair Jacobson (Grandson) on: Feb 16, 2015
