Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • It was a pleasure to meet Jim, through his daughter, Gaylene, after I babysat his first grandchild, Sam, in Toronto. A friend he became, generous in sharing his knowledge of naturapathic healing after he had done extensive research on nutrients, vitamins, etc, and where to get good quality buys. I shuffle boarded with his senior friends, got one ride in his airplane, learned about geothermal heating and cooling.he was open to friends and shared so generously from his vast trove of information. A great host. So sorry for all of you to lose this treasure. - Posted by: Rosa Stranart (Friend of family) on: Aug 26, 2015

  • My thoughts are with you and your family. Jim contributed much to the community. - Posted by: Ruthann Watson () on: Feb 26, 2015

  • Jim was the leader in introducing Zero Till to Manitoba, western Canada and North Dakota. Zero till has increased yields and protected soil from wind and water erosion. He was a PIONEER!! - Posted by: Doug Southam (Aggie friend and Zero till follower) on: Feb 19, 2015

  • I first met Jim in the spring of 1969. As a freshly minted professor, I visited Jim to see if I could rent some land from him to establish some zero tillage trials in Manitoba. Although his first response was negative, after 2 years he decided to experiment with zero tillage on his farm. Jim became the farmer spokesman for zero tillage in the northern great plains of Canada and the US. We became soul mates and often shared to podium at farm meetings and conferences. As a farmer, Jim's impact on the adoption of zero tillage was unparalleled. I have lost a great friend, my condolences to you, Francis. - Posted by: Elmer Stobbe (Friend) on: Feb 15, 2015

  • Met Jim in grade 9 Carman High School. He was part of a group from Homewood farm scholars. Good memories of those times. Condolences to family. - Posted by: John Klassen (Friend) on: Feb 14, 2015
