VALERIE PARTRIDGE It is with love and sadness in our hearts we announce the passing of our dearly beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Valerie Partridge. On February 12, 2015, at the age of 75, at St. Boniface Hospital Valerie passed away peacefully with her family by her side. She is now reunited with her loving husband Russell (2010), her parents Hester and Russell Slater; her brother Jack (Shirley), and her sisters Ethel (Alec), Helen (Earle) and Fern (Sonny). Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Kim (Al), son Craig (Jacquie), and daughter Kerinda; grandchildren Preston (Tina), Cory, Samantha, Kayla, Shana and Skye, and great-grandson Hayden. She is also survived by her loving sisters Iris Trager, Shelagh Milko (Doug), good friend Anne Derksen, and numerous nieces and nephews. Valerie was born to Hester and Russell Slater on December 12, 1939 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Growing up she loved to read, skate and was an avid baseball player. Working at Lake of the Woods Milling Company she met the love of her life Russell, who later became her husband of 49 and one half years. With her incredible work ethic she moved on to be extremely happy with her various jobs with the Winnipeg School Division for nearly 40 years. She especially loved her positions at St. John's High School and later on at the Adult Education Centre. Valerie's life revolved around her family. All her favourite activities included spending time with family members. In her younger years, she loved to play cards at the homes of her brothers and sisters, enjoyed the multitude of family parties and loved to dance in the living room to Elvis Presley in her high heels with her husband and children. Other favourites were arts and crafts with her grandchildren, as well as gardening and making flower arrangements. Valerie always made holidays special for everyone. She would write Easter notes to her children, lead the Christmas carols for the entire extended family, and prepare wonderful festive meals. She also loved creating family traditions, as seen with the making of the Christmas baskets and family newsletters that went out every year. A celebration of Valerie's life will be held on Friday, February 20 at 2:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home. COME WITH ME God saw she was getting tired and the cure was not to be, So He put His arms around her and whispered,"Come with Me". With tearful hearts we watched her fade away, Although we loved her dearly, we could not make her stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands to rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best. • My Aunty Val was a very kind and special person who will be sadly missed by many. My fondest memories of my aunt growing up was all the good times we had as children and adults in her home gathering around the table with all our families where she shined with her amazing dinners and always offering a welcoming smile and was always so happy to see you. She dedicated her life to her husband and her children and there was nothing she wouldn't do for them. Aunty Val was full of energy and was always there to help anyone no matter the circumstance.....a true and rare lady in my eyes and heart. I'm truly saddened and will miss her deeply. - Posted by: Barbra Rogers (Niece) on: Feb 17, 2015
